Obituary For Maureen "Moe" Joan Meyer

It is with extremely heavy hearts and deep sadness that our family announces the passing of Maureen “Moe” Joan Meyer (nee Gustavson), resident of Vernon, BC, formerly of Grande Prairie, AB, on Friday, November 25, 2022, at Vernon Jubilee Hospital, in British Columbia, at the age of 72 years. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, auntie, niece, and a friend to many. The number of lives she had the opportunity to touch was immeasurable.

Moe was born on May 9, 1950, at Beaverlodge Municipal Hospital, the third oldest of ten children and was raised in Wembley, AB. After graduating from high school, she attended PRBI and worked at Grace Children’s Home. It was there that she met her husband, Gordon Meyer. She knew he was the one when she first saw him and they were married August 9, 1975, in Glen Leslie, AB. On June 9, 1976, their son, Zachary was born and on December 30, 1981, their daughter, Angella was born. Their family was complete.

In 1984, to get away from the hustle and bustle of Wembley, Moe and Gordon were gifted 10 acres of land from the original Gustavson homestead in Goodfare, AB, where they built their story and a half log cabin. Their first winter was a big learning experience; hauling snow for water, storing wood for their pot belly and wooden cook stoves. Moe always had a huge garden and preserved a lot of their food and butchered wild meat to sustain them through the long winter months. It was a learning experience, but they enjoyed sitting in their rocking chairs around the pot belly stove. What a beautiful life! In 1993, they moved to Hythe, AB, and in 2021, they moved to Vernon.

Moe was a woman of great faith and loved the Lord and her family, a true caregiver, fun-loving and kind, somewhat of a prankster, loved to dance, a hard worker, and worked up until she was admitted to the hospital. She loved company and cooked meals for anyone that stopped by. You never left hungry, and she would ensure that you left with some of her canning or baking, along with hugs and prayers.

She will be forever missed by her husband of 47 years, Gordon; son Zachary (Amber); daughter Angella; granddaughters Joy Simmons and Faith Simmons; siblings: Jeanette, Edie (Rick) Lemire, Leroy, Neil (Debra), Marshall (Kathy), Donna (Dan) Ryan, and Nicky (David) Fisher; uncle Roy (Esther) Gustafson and uncle Torger Torgerson; special friends Tera Kloc and Lovona Farnsworth; as well as numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.

She was predeceased by her father Ingvar (Sept 1971); mother Susanna (July 2005); younger brother Tony (July 2020); as well as older brother Leverne (Nov 2021).

A Memorial Service for the late “Moe” Maureen Meyer, will be held on Friday, December 16, 2022, at 1:00pm, at Oliver’s Funeral Home in Grande Prairie (10005 107 Ave.). Following the service, family and friends are invited to join the family at the home of Neil & Debra Gustavson for refreshments and fellowship.

Memorial donations may be made to the charity of the one’s choice.
