Obituary For Maurice Burgess
Maurice Burgess, resident of Grande Prairie, passed away Friday, September 20, 2019, at the QEII Hospital, at the age of 97 years.
Maurice was born in Maybank Stoke on Trent, England on September 18, 1922. He came to Canada in September 1930. He lived on a farm south of Beaverlodge. He married Margaret Gertrude Marie Anderson on June 8, 1957 and they had three children: Ralph Arnold Burgess (May 28, 1956), Rose Marie Elizabeth Burgess (November 2, 1957) and Isobel Margaret Burgess (April 21, 1959).
Maurice enjoyed reading, photography, and a good debate. He loved his music and was a member of the Beaverlodge Band in the 1950’s. He also played drums and percussion in the Grande Prairie Ma & Pa Band with Mike Townshead.
He will be sadly missed by his children: Rose Marie (Art) Foster and Isobel Burgess (Mick Snedker); daughter in-law Diana Burgess; grandchildren: Daniel Sim (Line Høgh), Amanda Sim, Collin Foster (Tanya Hodder), Scot Foster, Ian (Megan) Burgess, and Kimberley Burgess; great-grandchildren: Joshua McGarvey, Ragna Høgh Sim, Nina Foster, and Jack Burgess; siblings: Elaine (Keven) Klinkner; Marjorie Parry, Warwick Burgess, and Barbara McReavey; and his extended family the Sawchucks and Tully and Darlene Anderson.
Maurice was predeceased by his son Ralph Burgess; wife Margaret Gertrude Marie Burgess; and brothers and sisters in-law: Alton Parry, Jean Burgess, Stan McReavey, Sheila Wieting, and Albert Wieting.
