Obituary For Melba Ruth McArthur Peacock

It is with great sorrow that the family of Melba Ruth Peacock, announce her returning to her Lord on Monday, June 29, 2020, at the age of 94 years.

Melba was born December 2, 1925 in the Moore House in Spirit River, AB to John and Marjorie (nee Hick) McArthur, the second of six children. She attended the White Mountain School until grade 8, then worked for a time at the Spirit River Hospital. She met her future husband, Arnold, in the spring of 1948. She then went to work for Arnold’s Mother, Laura Peacock, on the farm north of Spirit River. She married Arnold Peacock on November 23, 1948. Together they raised their seven children, (Marge, Robert, Beth, Sheila, Howard, Connie and Lorna) and lived together on the farm until Arnold’s passing in February 1980. She stayed on the farm, enjoying her gardening and baking, until moving to Pleasantview Lodge in 2004. She remained there, enjoying playing Bingo and making friends, until her passing.

She leaves to mourn her son Robert Peacock (Heather); daughters: Marge Lewicki (Rob Aubin), Beth (Melvin Gunderson), Sheila (Yvon Fortin), Connie (Ben Dunn), and Lorna (Scott Wood); daughter in-law Sheana Verquin; along with 14 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild.

She was predeceased by her loving husband Arnold, son Howard, and grandson Mark Fortin.

As per her wishes, Melba was laid to rest beside her husband, at the White Mountain Cemetery on Friday July 3, 2020 at 1:00pm, surrounded by her loved loves.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that all donations be made to either the Grande Spirit Foundation - Pleasantview Lodge (9505 102 Ave, Grande Prairie, AB, T8V 7G9), or the Spirit of the Peace United Church (Box 267, Spirit River, AB, T0H 3G0).

    Dear Marge (I knew you as Margery) and Bob.....itâ??s been so long but I still remember playing in the barn at your place across the road from Grandma and Grandpa Jarvis....good memories. It was nice that our moms reunited in the lodge. Melba will be missed by all. Take care.
