Obituary For Melonia (Lonnie) Barbara Redwood

It is with sadness we announce the passing of our Mom, Grandmother and Sister Melonia (Lonnie) Barbara Redwood on Tuesday, October 20, 2015.

Lonnie was born January 12, 1932 at Compere, Alberta to George and Monica Wald. She was the oldest of 5 daughters, starting school in Whitelaw until their move to Grande Prairie, where she attended St. Joseph’s Academy and then went to work at Grande Prairie Telephone Office. It was there that she met the love of her life Frank. They married July 16, 1951 and started an adventure that would last for over 50 years and in this time they were blessed with 3 daughters: Melonie, Donna and Debbie. With Frank’s employment in the oilfield industry, they moved to several areas of Alberta and Saskatchewan until 1974 when they moved back to Grande Prairie.

Besides being a wonderful wife and mother, Lonnie was a woman with many talents. She was an accomplished artist, seamstress and gardener, touching many lives with the beauty of her work. Lonnie and Frank enjoyed a rich life full of travel, family and friends. After Frank’s passing, Lonnie made many new friends in Emerald Gardens and most recently Mackenzie Place. She looked forward to her Friday coffee meetings at the Co-op, lunches with her sisters and especially visits with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Lonnie will be greatly missed by her daughters: Melonie (Garret) Mazurek, Donna (Danny) Ames, Debbie (Greg) Hetet; grandchildren: Holly (Brady) - children Tristan and Quinn, Michael (Nicole) - daughter Miah, Jennifer - children Cohan, Chloe and Lily, Sean (Jamie) - children Olivia and Connor and Debbie and Greg’s children Cleveland and Lemia; as well as sisters: Audrey, Dorothy, Helen and Sheryl; sister in-law Barbara; brother in-law Alan; as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews.

A celebration of her life will be held on Friday, October 23, at 11:00am, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Grande Prairie (10404 102 St.) with lunch to follow in Tranquil Hall.

Memorial donations may be made to QEII Hospital - MacKenzie Place (10409 98 St, Grande Prairie, AB, T8V 2E8), or to a local charity of one’s choice.
