Obituary For Michael Evans

Michael Ron Evans, resident of Beaverlodge, AB, formerly of Fort Saskatchewan, AB, passed away on Friday, August 26, 2016 in Stettler, AB, at the age of 43 years.

Michael was born September 20, 1973. After living four years in High Level, he moved with his family to Chinook Valley. He grew up enjoying the freedom of country life. In 1982, the family moved again to the Grande Prairie area, where he was able to play hockey, join Wembley’s judo club and take guitar lessons.

He graduated from the Beaverlodge High School in 1991, and in 2001, received a Physical Education degree from the University of Alberta. He worked a few years in the Physical Education field, and more recently, worked in framing and landscaping. Michael loved hiking and backpacking trips, mountain biking with friends, and playing the guitar. As his high school grad motto said, he was “simply one of the best”.

He will be sadly missed by his sisters: Jackie Evans and Dakota Michelle Evans; brothers in-law Lloyd Ayers and Mike Amirault and parents Ron and Janet Evans.

He was predeceased by his grandparents Ivan and Gladys Hoover and his grandmother Marjorie Evans.

A Celebration of Life for Michael and Jody will be held Sunday, September 11, 2016 at 11:00am, at the ENTREC Centre in Evergreen Park.

The family asks guests to dress as brightly as Michael and Jody’s smiles.

Memorial donations may be made a charity of one’s choice.

Ron and Janet, I was shocked and deeply saddened to hear what happened. I don't know how you are possibly dealing with a tragedy like this. Losing one child is devastating, but losing two children at once is horrible and something only a very few people ever have to experience. I think it must be almost unbelievable, a feeling that it is so unfair that they be taken from you, that you would be waiting for it to be over, then the realization it can't be changed. I feel so helpless and inadequate right now, but know that I will think of you often as you come to deal with what has occurred. God bless both of you and your other children; hopefully the Lord can help you through the many challenges you will experience for the rest of your lives.

I had met mike when we both worked at the hospital in the early ninety's and became friends with both myself and my wife debbie. It was always a pleasure to have mike come over and play guitar. I always held mike in the highest regard and he was the most gentle caring person, always ready laughing with his witty humor. Although we lost contact over the years I had the pleasure of his company about a year ago when he stopped in at my place with his guitar of course. It was an evening that I will always remember and I will surely miss him.

I had the pleasure of meeting Mike through my brother Mark. Years ago Mike played his guitar during Mark's wedding ceremony. Very talented. Mike was a very witty and funny guy, always made you laugh. Taken too soon. Thoughts and prayers for Mike and Jody's family.

My most sincere condolences to Mike's family and friends on his passing. I met Mike in junior-high (band class if I remember correctly), and we hit it off right away. He had a great sense of humor, and I don't ever recall a bad/negative word to come out of his mouth. Just an all-around pleasant guy and good friend. Unfortunately, I lost track of him when his family left Grande Prairie. I did bump into him again years later, and it was nice to reminisce. I am truly saddened to hear of his passing. My thoughts and prayers are with everyone concerned.

Although we did not know Michael for very long he has left us with small reminders. He worked for my husband as a swamper years ago. He was good at what he was doing. He was punctual, polite, clean, friendly and worked hard. We knew this job was not what Michael was. He wasn't a swamper. He was destined for better things. Before he left our employ he made sure we had a replacement for him by introducing his friend Kelly. He didn't want to leave us without help. He encouraged our son to join Judo and always reached out to him during any class they shared. Mike sold us a motor for an old Toyota Landcruiser that we use as a snowplow. Every year to this day my husband talks about Mike when he stars up that truck. Yes the motor is still running like a top. We wish Michael was here to hear it. Our most heartfelt condolences to Michael's family. You raised a wonderful young man.
