Obituary For Michael "Robin" Newton

Michael "Robin” Newton a resident of Beaverlodge, AB, formerly of Broseley, Shropshire, England passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 20, 2024 at Grande Prairie Regional Hospital at the age of 83 years.

Robin was born October 3, 1940 to Charles and Kathleen Newton in Luton, Bedford, England. He was the middle child with an older brother Richard and younger sister Molly.

In 1958 Robin met the love of his life Joyce Morris and they were married in 1962. Soon after they welcomed their first child Alan Shane, then in 1964 Matthew Charles, four years later in 1968 Helen Catherine and finally in 1974 came along baby Linzi Gale.

Robin worked on farms and drove long-distance trucks in England.

In 1977 Robin and Joyce came to Canada and fell in love with the country and decided to immigrate. The family moved in 1981 to Bear Canyon, AB and stayed there for three years, finally settling in Beaverlodge, AB in 1984.

Robin was a Jack-of-all-trades: beekeeping, construction, selling cars at Windsor Ford, Hotel Management and Liquor Stores. He found his dream job at the Beaverlodge Arena driving the Zamboni right up until he was 82 years old.

Robin will be sadly missed by his loving wife of 63 years Joyce Newton; children: Alan (Jess) Newton, Matthew (Lorna) Newton, Helen (Wade) Wallan and Linzi (Daniel) Sanderson; grandchildren: Richard, Robin, Eric, Daniel, Darby (Tori), Kori (Cass), Kaleb (Jayna), Austin, Seth, Sean, Raish (Shanice) and Gage (Dakota); as well as great-grandchildren: Bentley, Colt, Weston, Brett, Maddie, Nash, Raedyn, Bennett and Layton (he was lovingly known as Papa Zamboni).

A Celebration of Life for Robin will be held on Friday, May 3, 2024 at 2:00pm at Oliver’s Funeral Home (10005 107 Ave.) in Grande Prairie, AB and will be followed by a small Luncheon.

Memorial donations can be made in Robin’s name to Beaverlodge Minor Hockey or Beaverlodge Girls Hockey (Box 301, Beaverlodge, AB T0H 0C0).
