Obituary For Michael Wayne Palmer
Michael “Mike” Wayne Palmer, resident of Grande Prairie, AB, was surrounded by loved ones when he passed on Wednesday, December 15, 2021, in Grande Prairie, at the age of 57 years.
Mike was born in Grande Prairie, on February 6, 1964, and resided there his whole life. He married the love of his life Lillian Palmer (nee Black), on June 24, 1989. He would always take pride in telling people they were married (32 years). Mike was a student at the Grande Prairie Composite High School, as well as NAIT for his automotive and instrumentation training. Over the years, Mike was employed in the automotive and oil and gas industries.
He was quick witted and made people laugh. A couple weeks ago, a nurse said “I’ll be here tomorrow” and Mike, as sick as he was piped up and said “I’ll be here all week”. He was hard-working, strong, tough, loving, kind, polite, caring, and all of these things helped him get through everything that cancer threw his way.
Fishing was a lifelong passion for Mike. He also enjoyed camping, hunting, quadding, and taking the dog out for adventures. In his younger years he snowmobiled, downhill skied, water-skied, went tubing, and rode his motorcycle. His interests were antique vehicles (The 1970 Chevelle was his dream car), tattoos, listening to music, and learning to play the guitar. Mike was very artistic and one of his talents was airbrushing, and he painted wall size paintings in his garage. Another project he was proud of was the 1970’s GMC Truck that he rebuilt and made into a mud bogger. His dogs Sheeba, Rocky, and Cooper have been a big part of his life, and he found them to be a calming comfort.
Mike will be sadly missed by his wife Lillian Palmer; sisters: Ellen (Bruce) Coleman, Jean (Tom) Durrant, Sharon (Wally) Snow, and Marlene (Doug) Campbell; brother Norm (Val) Palmer; father and mother in-law Rodger and Ruth Black, brothers in-law: Keith (Val) Black, Ken (Virginia) Black, and Wayne (Darlene) Black; sister in-law Ruth (Sean) Frey; as well as many extended family members.
Mike was predeceased by his father Ken Palmer and mother Hannah Palmer (nee Wardill).
The family would like to thank the Doctors, Nurses, and Caregivers that helped Mike through the hardest time of his life, as well as the staff at Oliver’s Funeral Home for their compassion and dedication toward the family and to the funeral process.
Due to Covid restrictions, an invite-only Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, December 30, 2021, at 1:00pm, at Oliver’s Funeral Home in Grande Prairie (10005 107 Ave.).
A Livestream of the service will be accessible on Mike’s obituary on Oliver’s Funeral Home website.
Memorial Donations may be made to Cancer Research Society (305 200 Isabella St., Box 4813 Stn. E, Ottawa, ON, K1S 1P7).
