Obituary For Mona Thea Dagmar Saastad

Mona Saastad, resident of Sylvan Lake, AB, formerly of Valhalla Centre and Wembley, AB, passed away on Wednesday, June 26, 2024, in Rimbey, AB, at the age of 92 years.

Mona was born in Valhalla, AB, on November 3, 1931, and spent her childhood there. She married Andreas Saastad on December 27, 1952. Together they raised five children on their farm in Valhalla. In 1992, they sold the farm and moved to Wembley, AB.

Mona enjoyed taking the family to the local fairs and showing their horses and cattle. She was passionate about gardening, and she kept her yard and flowers beautiful. In the winters she enjoyed curling and bonspieling. Her door was always open to friends and neighbours.

She will be sadly missed by her children: Aubrey (Rose), Rob (Lori), Wayne (Jenny), Greg (Val), Monica (Dave); grandchildren: Ryan Saastad, Brandon Saastad, Chandi Hergott, Rochelle Stephenson, Colton Tiedeman, Kayleigh Saastad, Sondra Saastad, Jeremy Saastad, Tim Saastad and Justin Stover; great-grandchildren: Peyton and Cale Stephenson, Emry Hallston, Ollie Saastad, Charlie Saastad, Norah Hergott and Maddox LeBlanc.

Mona was predeceased by her husband Andy; parents Wilhelm and Ollie Braathen; brothers Sig and Melvin; sisters; Swannie, Gerd and Thelma.

A Celebration of Life is to be held for Mona on September 28, 2024, at the Valhalla Lutheran Church (AB-59, Valhalla Centre) with a luncheon to follow at the Valhalla Community School (9702 100 Ave, Valhalla Centre).

Memorial donations may be made to the Hythe and District Pioneer Homes Foundation
