Obituary For Neil Fredrick Fowler

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Neil Fredrick Fowler, who passed away peacefully on January 13, 2025, at the age of 83 years.

Born on March 31, 1941, in the countryside just outside Wanham, AB, Neil lived a full and meaningful life as a farmer, community member, and devoted family man.

Neil was the beloved husband of Corrine Fern Fowler, with whom he shared 55 wonderful years of marriage. Together, they raised their three sons—Vaughn Kelly Fowler, Faron Neil Fowler, and Sheldon Norris Fowler—on their homestead along Highway 49, just four miles west of Wanham. Neil was also a proud grandfather to three grandchildren: Aidan Fowler and his younger sister Anna Fowler (children of Vaughn and Crystal Nedohin Fowler), and Harland Fowler (son of Faron Fowler and Cheryl-Anne Payne, along with stepmother Carrie Brown).

A farmer through and through, Neil spent 50 years cultivating grain and raising livestock on his acreage, pouring his heart into the land he loved. Outside of farming, Neil's dedication to his community was unmatched. He was a proud supporter of the annual Wanham Provincial Plowing Match and an active member of the Wanham Presbyterian Church, where he sang in the choir and played guitar in his earlier years. Neil also had a knack for humor, delighting audiences as a member of a local comedy troupe, performing in several plays that became cherished community events. Neil’s competitive spirit shone brightly on the curling rink, where he played on numerous teams, earning many trophies. In the summer months, he could often be found camping, throwing horseshoes, or working on woodworking projects. He was known for his sharp wit, hardworking nature, and as someone who could fix almost anything; it could be said, “if Fowler can't fix it, we're all screwed!”

Neil was predeceased by his parents, Leal and Dorothea Fowler of Wanham, AB.

He is survived by his wife, Corrine; his sons Vaughn (Crystal), Faron (Carrie), and Sheldon (Laine); and his 3 grandchildren; as well as his siblings: Beverley Moxley, Pat Hurlock, Ted Fowler, Janice Lessard and their children and grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews.

A Memorial Service to celebrate Neil’s life will be held on Thursday, January 23, 2025, at 11:00 am, at the Wanham COCO Hall. Following the service and social, Neil will be laid to rest at the Wanham Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations can be made to Grande Prairie Palliative Care Society or Alberta Cancer Foundation.

Neil will be dearly missed but fondly remembered for his humor, kindness, and unwavering dedication to his family, community, and the land he called home.
