Obituary For Nick Geleta

Nick Geleta, resident of Spirit River, passed away on Wednesday, May 10, 2017, in Spirit River, AB, at the age of 80 years.

Nick was born March 28, 1937 in Spirit River and was raised in the Devale area. He spent his life working in road construction in the Peace Country area and into BC. He purchased his first D-6 cat in 1980 which he eventually sold and then purchased a grader and worked as a contract operator for Birch Hills County until his retirement in 2001. He farmed in Birch Hills area until moving into town in 2011. Nick spent his retirement years gardening, visiting and joking with family and friends.

He will be sadly missed by his partner Lorraine Kolosky; his daughter Sherry Schatz of Irma, AB and her children Devon and Spencer; son Alan Geleta (Liz) of Bezanson, AB and his daughter Cheryse (Trevor) Taylor of Grande Prairie; he will also be missed by his bonus family of Lorraine’s children, grandchildren and her siblings. He also leaves behind his brother Mike (Elsie) Geleta; sisters: Kay Shmyr, Ann Sanocki and Georgia Tomkow; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Nick was predeceased by his parents George and Lena.

The Memorial Service will be held Tuesday, May 16, 2017 at 1:00pm at Spirit of Peace United Church in Spirit River (4902 45 Ave.). There will be a private interment held following the service.

Memorial donations may be made to Heart & Stroke of Alberta (Unit 109 10126 120 Ave. Grande Prairie, AB T8V 8H9), to Canadian Cancer Society (103 9805 97 St. Grande Prairie, AB T8V 8B9), or to a charity of one’s choice.

    I hope that you are both doing well and that you get to see some understanding in all this. I know that I did when my father passed away...many years later. I still have some fond memories so I hang on to those...and I move forward every day, every week and every year knowing that none of the past will hurt as bad as it did before.
