Obituary For Nina Bean

Nina Bean, resident of Grande Prairie, AB passed away on Wednesday, August 14, 2024, at the Grande Prairie Regional Hospital, at the age of 89 years.

Nina passed away peacefully at the GP Regional Hospital after a brief stay. Nina was born April 13, 1935, in Lamont, AB moving to Woking, AB at about 3 years of age. Nina spent her early years growing up in the Woking area. She met Wally Bean in early 1955 and they married later that year settling in the Grande Prairie area. In 1963, Nina and Wally moved to their acreage by Flying Shot Lake where they raised their family. They resided there for 55 years until they moved to Wild Rose Villas.

Deep in her heart, Nina was a natural homemaker. She was happiest raising her family and spent much of her time in the kitchen. Whether it was making great meals, baking delicious goodies or canning everything grown in the garden; Nina did it all. Wally was the gardener, but Nina loved caring for her flower beds, which boasted beautiful blooms.

She was an avid sports fan and especially enjoyed watching Wally and the kids play fastball. She always was in charge of the scorebook, keeping track of the games. Years ago, she became a loyal BlueJays fan and continued keeping score from her armchair at home.

Nina loved playing cards and there was always a game at the table whether playing solitaire or with the family. Later she took an interest in bridge playing with neighborhood friends and then she became a regular at The Golden Age Center for many years.

Nina loved being a mother and was very involved in all her kids’ activities. She was always happy when they came home to visit. Nina was a wonderful grandma, and her grandkids loved her famous ‘goodie drawer’. Later she treasured all the visits from her great-grandchildren.

Nina loved her family and friends and held them all close to her heart. She loved being a part of the Flying Shot Lake / Dimsdale community. Nina was blessed to find a new community to be a part of with all her neighbours at Wild Rose Villas for her final years.

She will be forever missed by her children: Brenda Bean, Lois (Derek) Stuckey, Kevin Bean, Lorna (Greg ) Sheehan, and Rodney (Nitza) Bean; 11 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Nina was predeceased by her beloved husband, Wally Bean; her parents Frank and Betty Coone, her sister Audrey Nagel, and her best friend Lois Thompson.

The Funeral Service will be held Thursday, August 22, 2024, at 10:00 AM at Oliver’s Funeral Home in Grande Prairie (10005 107 Ave.). A live stream of the service will be available on Nina’s obituary on Oliver’s website.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Grande Prairie Salvation Army 9615-102 Street Grande Prairie, Alberta T8V 2T8

My deepest condolences. I spent time with Nina weekly for over a year - she was one of my favourite people. She loved her family and spoke of you all often. I got to enjoy Nina's candy jar on many occasions and better yet many hugs. May your memories get you through these dark days. She will be missed.

Gramma was the best. When I lived with gramma and grandpa for a while she would insist on making my lunch every day. We didn't have a lunch kit and rather than having me buy one she put my lunch in an empty ice cream container. I was proud to use it because she made the lunch for me. She saw me doing puzzles and set up her card table in the living room so I could build them with her and grampa watching the ball game. Many times I would come home to whole parts of the puzzle finished. I'll miss you gramma, but I'm glad you are with grampa now. Who knows what shenanigans he's been getting up to with out you to watch him! ♥️

I remember all the tasty treats she made, the fun card games and the visits. I drove Aunt Nina to Edmonton one stormy night as Grandma Coone was in the university hospital and all of her sisters were also on their way there. Even on that stormy night she packed a marshmallow Krispie treat. (It was amazing) she stayed calm during the drive as it was not an easy drive that night. She was a great passenger and even in the stressful circumstances we had a really special time together. That same trip she wanted me to color her hair in the hotel. I have many fond memories of Aunt Nina and thinking of her brings a smile to my face. Thinking of you all Brenda, Lois, Kevin, Lorna, and Rodney and families. May your memories also bring a smile to your faces. Love Tammy

Played bridge with Nina many times, enjoyed her good playing when she was my partner, always wary when she was the opposition!
