Obituary For Norman Drysdale

Norman Arthur Drysdale passed away peacefully Saturday, May 20, 2017, at Points West Living, at the age of 89 years.

Norman was born in Clover Bar, AB on November 28, 1927, to Sid and Anna Drysdale.

In 1928, Sid and Anna headed to the Clairmont area with their children: Allan, Gordon, Marguerite, and baby Norman. Shortly thereafter, they purchased the Ross Lake Farm where Fred and Marion were added to the family. Four generations were proud to call this farm their home.

Norman married Ethel Keillor in 1949, and they raised their six children: Lynda, Ken, Larry, Kathy, Pam and Pat.

In 1985, Norman met Mary Murray and was blessed to gain his fifth daughter Karyl. They then moved to the Hines Creek farm with Karyl in 1989 and were married December 21, 1990. Later in 2003 they purchased an acreage east of Sexsmith. In 2012, Norman and Mary moved to Clairmont. Norman became a resident at Points West Living in October 2016. Norman’s character is reflected in the many great friendships he made in each of these communities.

Norman is forever loved and missed by his loving wife Mary; children: Lynda (Bob) Hancock, Ken (Sherry), Larry (Dorothy Russell), Kathy (Don) McKinnon, Pam (Ken) Binks, Pat (Archie) Meurs, and Karyl (Kevin) Jaschke; daughters in-law: Arlene and Sharon; sisters: Marguerite Drysdale and Marion Leggatt; sisters and brothers in-law: Betty Johannsen, Meryl Drysdale, Helen Keillor and Ruth (Ron) Dittberner, Howie (Georgina) Pushor, Carol Audenaert, and Dale (Annie) Pushor; as well as many nephews, nieces and cousins.

Norman’s wonderful legacy is twenty-five grandchildren, thirty great-grandchildren and three great great-grandchildren.

Norman was predeceased by his parents: Sidney and Anna; Mary’s parents: Grant and Verona Pushor; brothers: Allan, Gordon and Fred; sisters in-law: Jean Drysdale, Alice Drysdale, Lucille Pushor and Pat Carragher; brothers in-law: Buster Leggatt, Jerry Pushor, Grant Pushor, Wade Anderson, Vern Carragher and Albert Audenaert; daughter in-law Gwen; granddaughter Adele; mother of Norman’s children Ethel; nephews Bruce and Troy Drysdale; and sidekicks Kirk Nelson and Richard Brooks.

Norman’s great loves were family, friends, the activities of his children and grandchildren, various sports, and his horses. Our mountain man enjoyed many horseback adventures on and off the trails in the Wilmore Wilderness and Kakwa Park with family, friends and the Brooks brothers.

Thank you for the special care Norman received through the past 4 years from Homecare and their Staff, his nieces Martie-Jo and Danielle, the Staff at Points West Living and to the caring Doctors from Sexsmith Clinic.

The family wishes to invite friends and family to join them in Fellowship and Lunch on Sunday, June 4, 2017, at the Clairmont Community Centre (former Curling Rink) (9819 100 Ave.), at 1:00pm followed by the Service of Remembrance at 3:00pm.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Clairmont United Church (9915-100 Ave., Clairmont, AB, T0H 0W0) or a charity of one’s choice.
