Obituary For Norman Hanson

Norman Lee Hanson, resident of the Beaverlodge, AB area, passed away on Sunday, October 22, 2017, in Beaverlodge, at the age of 57 years.

Norm was born September 30, 1960, in Beaverlodge, the ninth child of TK and Annie Hanson. He grew up on the family farm northwest of Goodfare, AB. At 17, Norm met 15 year old Joyce Sieker and they became high school sweethearts. After a few years in Grande Prairie, they married in 1983, and soon moved to their farm west of Huallen, near Beaverlodge.

Norm and Joyce welcomed three wonderful children to their lives, Brittany and Braiden in 1987 and Kirsten in 1991.

Norman was a ticketed welder, but a jack-of-all trades. He could fix anything, except for things he chose not to! Norm was a True Family Man, he loved being with his kids and his kid’s friends. He taught his kids love in the truest form: unconditional and pure.

Norm was the strongest defender of his family and friends, always there for those he loved, no matter what. He would take on the world for them.

He had the most witty, sarcastic, dry and often inappropriate sense of humor. His humor could lighten any mood and manage any stress or struggle. Everyone who experienced these gifts would, at the very least, be smiling by the end. Norm had such skill in his delivery of humor, often not even cracking his famous grin, but his eyes would give him away – the Hanson twinkle – something he has passed on to ALL his grandkids.

Norm was a VERY proud grandfather, anxiously waiting for the birth of each baby to tenderly welcome them into the world. He proudly cherished every moment with them and watched in wonder as his children became parents. His seven grandkids knew they were absolutely loved. He listened to them intently, teaching and guiding and using his wit and humor to lighten their struggles or deliver a lesson.

The stories about Norm are endless…and each and every person who knew Norm has at least a few.

Norm’s passing leaves a huge hole in many hearts. He will be forever loved and missed by his wife Joyce; and his family: Brittany (Justin) and grandchildren Kahlen, Pierce, and Declan; Braiden (Kyla) and grandchildren Sydney, Karsten, and Kyler; Kirsten (Riley) and grandchild Kelden; as well as many, many other extended family and friends.

Norm was predeceased by his grandparents, parents, mother in-law Doreen Sieker, sister Thorine and her children: Ivy, Theodore, Ivan and Faye.

A Memorial Service for Norman Hanson will be held Monday, October 30, 2017 at 1:00pm at the Wembley Recreation Centre.

Memorial donations may be made to the Grande Prairie Regional Hospital Foundation - NICU in support of Norm’s deep love for children (10409 98 St., Grande Prairie, AB, T8V 2E8).

As a realtor I met many clients over the years but Norman and Joyce stuck out. It was the humour they shared and love of family that resonated so well with me. I ran into Norman a while back and we swapped family stories and stood around like a couple of proud grandpas that we were. A loving family is the best legacy you can leave and looks like Norman is leaving a big legacy. My thoughts are with his family at this difficult time. Go in peace Norman.
