Obituary For Owen Francis Thomas
"You left us without a word of warning or a chance to say good-bye; I trust you felt there were no words left unspoken; and that's the reason why.”
It is with extremely heavy hearts and deep sadness that our family announces the passing of Owen Francis Thomas, resident of Sexsmith, AB, on Saturday, December 3, 2022. Owen was born on July 4, 1982, and left us far too early at 40 years of age. He was a beloved partner, father, son, brother, uncle, nephew, and a friend to many. The number of lives he had the opportunity to touch was immeasurable.
Owen will always be remembered for his hard-working nature, quick witted humor, unforgettable and contagious smile, enormous heart, his fierce determination to overcome adversities, and for his overwhelmingly kind, gentle and generous spirit. Owen's deep and steadfast love of family played an integral role in his life. Additionally, he was considered a trusted and loyal friend to many. To say Owen always gave his all to the people that he loved, merely scratched the surface of his true character and person.
Owen enjoyed the great outdoors; the art of hunting and fishing brought him a sense of peace and tranquility that not only nurtured his soul, but also served as a way to provide for his family and friends. He also had a great passion for riding his motorcycle and the brotherhood that came with it. The only thing that brought him more happiness than riding was spending time and creating everlasting memories with his beautiful daughter Myah, followed closely by moments with his many nieces and nephews. "Life is not about waiting for the storm to pass; it's about learning to ride in the rain"
Owen survived many a storm throughout his life and brought a new meaning to his extreme ability to ride in the rain, given the number of life experiences ventured and the medical adversities that continually challenged him. He faced each issue "head on" and with such tremendous strength and courage. You were a constant reminder that with hard work and determination it is possible to reach what others may have deemed "unobtainable". The thought of "giving up" was never an option for you, regardless of the circumstance. We are comforted by the fact that no longer will you have to face another storm but are burdened by the incredible void you have left in all of us. Your absence will have an everlasting impact on your family and all who knew and loved you.
Owen will be grieved and forever loved by his partner Bonnie Linsley; daughter Myah Thomas; mother Evangeline Thomas; sisters Amanda (Brody) Thomson and Janine (Patrick) Angus; brothers Joe (Mel) Socha and Cory (Lorna) Thomas; nieces and nephews: Linden and Porter Thomson, Zachery and Kaylee Angus, Ava and Emma Thomas, Gavin Socha and Aalysha Brousseau. Along with numerous extended family members and friends that will forever hold his memory deep within their hearts. Not to be forgotten his extra special fur children Zena and Benny.
Owen was predeceased by his father Francis Alexander Thomas; grandparents George and Irene DePoortere, and Evelyn Thomas and Francis Campbell; as well as aunts: Lorraine, Bernadette, Geraldine, and Theresa.
A Viewing will be held on Sunday, December 11, 2022, from 7:00 - 9:00 pm, at Oliver's Funeral Home (10005 - 107 Ave.), with cremation to follow and burial in the Webster cemetery at a later date. A Celebration of Life will take place on Tuesday, December 13, 2022, at 2:00 pm at Clarkson Hall (Evergreen Park). Please remember this is a jeans sort of event… Owen wasn’t fancy like that.
A Livestream (Facebook Live) of the service will be accessible 15 minutes prior to the service on Owen’s obituary on Oliver’s Funeral Home website.

I met Owen and Bonnie on July 29, 2020 in Edmonton- there was something very familiar about Owen even though I was sure I had never met him before! Then I thought of my deceased brother and ask if by chance he knew of him - turns out he did know him very well and we had a great conversation- what was so weird about that meeting was my little niece was dying in the nearby hospital and to me it was a sign that my brother was watching over his sisters giving us strength as the next morning my niece died! Bonnie my heart breaks for you - no words can ease your pain! Just know I'm thinking of you! My deepest sympathies to Owen's daughter and all of his family

Owen was a good friend to my son's for many years. Both Cody and Cory spoke about him with love and respect. I do remember him as a young man hanging out with Travis and Cody and whenever I met him, he always was very respectful and in a good mood.. I truly am so sorry for your loss of this wonderful man.
