Obituary For Patricia Carol Grigg Joberty

Patricia Carol Joberty (nee Grigg) passed away peacefully in her sleep at the Grande Prairie Care Centre on Sunday, February 2, 2020, at the age of 78 years.

Carol was born in Moose Jaw, SK on February 17, 1941, the oldest of five children born to Allan and Roberta Grigg. Carol’s childhood was spent on the family farm in Archydal, SK. She moved to Grande Prairie, AB in 1959 and completed a year of secretarial studies at St. Joseph’s Business College. She married Marcel Joberty on July 2, 1960 and made Grande Prairie home where she raised her family of three daughters and resided until her passing. Carol’s greatest love was her family, followed very closely by pictures of her family. She loved flowers in her yard, playing cards (Peekee, Bridge, and Five Crowns), her weekly phone calls with family members, reading emails from family, and watching hockey, curling and figure skating. Playing cards with her weekly ladies’ bridge group was very important to Mom. Music played a special role in Carol’s life. She beautifully played the organ, piano and accordion by ear and had completed many years of piano lessons and conservatory exams. Carol loved to crochet and each of her daughters has a beautiful afghan and doilies to treasure. In Carol’s later years, watching the birds at the bird feeder on her deck brought her great pleasure.

Mom had a passion for genealogy and she created numerous albums of family history. As the hub of our family, mom was the “go to” person and Christmas was one of her favorite times of the year. She affectionately referred to our dad as “Popa” and she acknowledged all family events. Mom and Dad enjoyed travelling and, over the years, ventured on a few bus trips and cruises. Winters, for many years, were enjoyed in Parksville, BC with their Parksville friends. Grannie welcomed each of her grandchildren into the world with thoughtful, personalized gifts. She will be fondly remembered by her grandchildren for the ice cream pails of fabulous homemade chocolate chip cookies she brought to the annual family reunion at Pelican Point in Bashaw, AB.

Carol (known as PC to family and friends) leaves to mourn her passing her husband Marcel Joberty; three daughters: Shelley (David) Lorenz, Deb (Troy) Kindopp and Karen (Keith) Kjenner; eight grandchildren: Jason Lorenz, Lisa (Taylor) Mitchell, Kiara (Shane) Moshansky, Cody Otto, Shania (Mark) Goelema, Tawni Kjenner, Tasha Kjenner and Tiana Kindopp; two great-grandchildren: Hudson Goelema and Jessi Mitchell; two sisters: Sharon Grigg and Sandra Johnson; sisters in-law: Memorie Grigg and Joan Joberty; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Carol was predeceased by her parents Allan and Roberta Grigg; brothers: David Grigg and Robert Grigg; brother in-law Ray Joberty; and granddaughter Kristi Otto.

Let us embrace our positive memories of Carol and know that she is eternally resting in peace.

A Celebration of Life, will take place at a later date.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to The Lung Association, Alberta and NWT (PO Box 4500, Station South, Edmonton, AB, T6E 6K2).

We are very saddened to hear of Carol's passing. We enjoyed sitting in front of Carol, Marcel, Shelley and David and at the Storm games; she told some good stories. After we gave up our season tickets, every time we saw Carol she asked when we were coming back, cuz she missed us. She was a gem. May you all cherish the good times and memories that you shared with her. Marcel, our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family during this very difficult time. God Bless all of you. Ken & Trish Trarback

Marcel I'm so sorry to hear of Carol's passing. I know her battle with cancer was a long one. Although we never associated much in person, when we did it was a pleasure to catch up. My sincere condolences to you and your family. Paulette Hrychiw (nee Pivert)
