Obituary For Paulette Lynn Kurylo

Paulette Lynn Kurylo, resident of Grande Prairie, AB, passed to her rest in the Lord on Tuesday, March 21, 2023, at the age of 74.

Paulette was born in Lamont, AB, on August 5, 1948, and grew up in Edmonton, AB. After graduating from Ross Shepherd Composite High School, Paulette began work as a secretary, first at an import-export company at the old Edmonton Municipal Airport, then at a legal office in downtown Edmonton. She moved to Grande Prairie with her husband Kip in 1974 to support him in his career as a teacher. Her many skills, intelligence, and commitment to hard work took her to serve in a variety of positions in Grande Prairie.

Paulette’s first job in Grande Prairie was at Canfor as a secretary, and then as acting manager of the Grande Prairie Downtown Association. She became the first Case-Team secretary at Crystal Park School, and eventually put her skills together with those of the local natural health community to work first at the Health Hut, and then spent the last 23 years at Homesteader Health.

Over the years Paulette had diversions from her work life. She completed a very successful two years toward a Bachelor of Education Degree at the Grande Prairie Regional College, but withdrew to birth and nurture her first child, Daniel, in 1978, and her second, Christina, in 1981. During that time Paulette was very involved in the Grande Prairie Childbirth Association, acting as secretary, and helping to prepare expectant mothers for healthy childbirth. She was also active with the Scottish Country Dancing Society for a number of years.

In 1992, Paulette was overwhelmingly elected to her first of what turned out to be ten terms, as a Grande Public School Division Trustee. Throughout her tenure she brought a strong voice to the board in support of providing excellent public education for all. Paulette served as a trustee for 29 years.

Paulette will be very deeply missed by Kip her husband of 54 years; her daughter Christina; son Daniel and his partner Jess; grandchildren: Kaden, Tallulah, and Emmett; brothers, sisters, and many nieces and nephews from both sides of the family.

The only love Paulette had as great as her family, was the love she had for her God and her Lord Jesus Christ. She loved to worship at her church on Sabbath and loved her church family very much. She was a true Prayer Warrior, praying continuously for her family and for others. She believed deeply in the promise of the resurrection and the joy of meeting loved ones again.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, April 1, 2023, at 2:00pm, at the Grande Prairie Seventh-day Adventist Church (711039 Range Rd 55). Interment to follow at the Grande Prairie Cemetery (84th Ave. and 112th St.).

A Livestream of the service will be accessible 15 minutes prior to the service on Paulette’s obituary on Oliver’s Funeral Home website.
