Obituary For Peter Murphy
Peter Murphy, resident of Grande Prairie, formerly of Grand Falls, Newfoundland, passed away on Monday, November 20, 2017, in Grande Prairie, at the age of 47 years.
Peter was born November 3, 1970 in Grand Falls, NL. He was raised in Grand Falls, NL, Churchill Falls, Labrador. He was a purebred Newfie and proud of it.
Peter was a Journeyman welder, but he mainly worked as a safety consultant. A “by the book”, “straight as an arrow” man, honesty was something he lived by. He was admired for his silly sense of humour.
He loved “Big Red”, his prized possession, and working on it was an ongoing process. Peter also enjoyed watching hockey, Coors Light, a cigarette, and fishing. He was passionate about food and enjoyed watching his kids play sports.
Peter will be sadly missed by the mother of his children Claudelle Murphy; children: Emma Murphy and Ian Murphy; parents Leo Murphy and Anne Murphy (nee Sullivan) of Grand Falls; siblings: James (Irene) Murphy, Helen (Paul) Harris, and Neil (Tina) Murphy; aunts: Colleen (Bill) Crawley (nee Murphy), Clare Murphy, Mary Murphy, Geraldine Griffin, Mary (Bill) Hayward, Ruth Sullivan, and Diane Curran; uncle Joe (Darlene) Sullivan, and special friend Peter Noseworthy.
A Viewing will be held on Friday, November 24, 2017 from 10:00-12:00pm, at Oliver’s Funeral Home in Grande Prairie (10005 107 Ave.).
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, November 25, 2017, at 2:30pm, at Oliver’s Funeral Home.
Memorial donations may be made to the Murphy family to assist in alleviating expenses at this time.

Dear Ann, Leo, Jim, Helen, and Neil: Ann and I were saddened to hear of Peter's passing. No matter how long it has been or how short a time a teacher has with a student, that student is never forgotten and is always remembered in a positive light. Leo and Ann, rest assured those feelings remain today. Jim, Helen and Neil, it is never easy losing a sibling. I know that from personal experience. I know that no matter how fast time flies, they are always with you.

Peter, although we didn't have the opportunity to spend a lot of time together as our careers took us to different corners of the world, was still my friend and brother. When ever our families got together the time was always filled with fun, laughter and love. Peter swaggered through the days we spent together with a very relaxed, easy going, attitude and didn't sweet the small stuff. Who else in the world would allow a 16 year old niece, with a learning permit only drive a Ford F350 super duty crew cab through the lower mainland in British Columbia? Peter would that's who. Our kids have wonderful memories of the time we spent together and the past, and now going into the future, will be talked about often. Our Families will come together again in another place to relive the old memories and to foster some new ones. All my love, Paul

To hear the sad news of Peter's passing has been heartfelt by myself, Christina, and Nancy. Such lovely memories of Peter in Grand Falls and Badger Lake, as a child growing up with my children. Peter has been on my mind all week; I'm so sorry and shocked that he's passed. All of my memories of Badger Lake feature Peter prominently - mostly him sighing and being patient with a young city cousin who couldn't understand how to cross through muck in the woods. Or what's a mink. Or lots of other things. He was caring and rambunctious and great fun. Sending lots of love from St. John's - Love, Jennifer

I have tried multiple times to write something meaningful that can be posted publicly, but I havenâ??t been able to do it. Itâ??s so shocking still from where Iâ??m sitting and so I know I canâ??t conceive of what it must be like for all of you. When i was a boy, spending time in Grand Falls or at Badger Lake in the company of Peter and Neil was what I imagined having brothers would be like, and though we went a long time without much contact I am remembering the best of those experiences now like they were yesterday. I owe Peter and all of you for the kindness and warmth you have always shown in ways I could never repay. I truly love you all. Iâ??ve asked mom and Jennifer and Amelia to keep me up on what your plans are back home, and I will see you there whenever or wherever it may be. Until then. Sean Curran

Ann, Leo, Jim, Helen and Neil, I am deeply saddened to hear of Pete's passing. Until grade 5, Pete and I were school chums, and then, for many more summers, he would return to Grand Falls-Windsor and we would pick right up where we left off the last time we were together. In recent years those opportunities were much less due to work and life commitments. A chance meeting in the mall with Helen this past winter, and an exchange of texts put things back on track again. I feel fortunate now that we had another summer visit this year! Please accept my heartfelt sympathies for your lossâ?¦my thoughts are with you all!

I am so deeply saddened by the news of Peters passing. Growing up in Churchill Falls is a special thing and no matter how many years pass by, we all feel the close bond with those we grew up with, whether they were younger or older, it doesn't matter. I can still hear Peters distinct laugh and see his smile as he was poking fun at someone or just having a laugh with his buddies. My heart goes out to all his family and friends.. may you find comfort in your cherished memories and lean on each other at this time of sorrow. Love Krista xo

It is with very heavy hearts that we send our deepest condolences to you from the other side of the world, during this most difficult time. Peter always had a â??specialâ?? place in our hearts and we loved his visits home with Ian and Emma. On one of those visits â??Uncle Joeâ?? gave him a blue handled pocket knife which he always kept and mentioned every time he came to see us. We will remember his huge smile, gentle demeanour and love of a good laugh. Peter was laid back, enjoyed the simple things in life and was proud of his Newfoundland heritage. Thatâ??s what we loved about him! Our heartfelt thoughts and prayers go out to you during this very sad time. Celebrate all the wonderful memories and good times you have of Peter and find strength from each other. Lots of love, hugs and prayers, Joe and Darlene xoxo

One of my favorite memories of Pete is the afternoon we spent pulling you both and Joanna around the lake on the "double dog". Seeing him laughing trying to tip you guys off and hearing you guys laughing and screaming back at us was, a great afternoon of fun. And Pete and I spent part of the afternoon hanging off the wharf at Badger Lake chatting about nothing and everything. A lot of conversation started with do you remember the time when.... we had so many great memories of us cousins growing up together summers on Badger Lake. That's how I will remember Pete, smiling, laughing and maybe a little grumpy because he didn't win at cards. I love you all, and am sending love to you as you prepare to honour a son, father, brother.
