Obituary For Philip John Kildal
Philip John Kildal was born on October 9, 1952 in Sexsmith, AB to Ivor and Inez Kildal. He passed away suddenly at his home on Saturday, January 27, 2018, at the age of 65 years.
He was raised on a farm north of La Glace where he lived and farmed for his entire life before moving to Grande Prairie in April 2017. He grew up the boss of an older brother and 4 younger sisters. Some of his greatest stories were retellings of pestering the twins, challenging Russell, and letting Carol and Laurie tag-a-long on his adventures.
Philip met the love of his life early on, and he and Kathryn Eide were married in Sexsmith on October 23, 1976. They were blessed with 4 beautiful children: Dara, Lynette, Nikolina and Ivor. The days of kids in the house were filled with noise, laughter, games and the general chaos that comes with having so many children. They spent summers camping with family and friends and winters skidooing and playing cards.
Once the kids were gone, Philip and Kathryn got to live out their dreams in their home away from home at Chinook. Here they met more friends and enjoyed hosting the many guests they invited over for a ‘round’. However, life for Philip never really began until he became a Grandpa. Bailey, Amery, Emi, Monty and Nora completed him and all of his energy went into making projects for them and whatever schemes he could come up with to keep them and himself entertained.
To know him was to love him. His most beloved treasures were the family and friends that surrounded him. He was never happier than when the table was filled with people, a drink or two was being served, and the laughter was long and loud.
He will be deeply missed by his wife Kathryn; children: Dara LaLonde, Lynette (Clayton) Torgerson, Nikolina Kildal (Jason) and Ivor (Kristina) Kildal; grandchildren: Bailey, Amery and Emi LaLonde, and Montgomery and Eleanor Torgerson.
He was predeceased by his parents Ivor Kildal and Inez Soiseth, and his step-father Lloyd Soiseth.
A Viewing will be held on Thursday, February 1, 2018, at 7:00pm, at Oliver’s Funeral Home in Grande Prairie (10005 107 Ave.)
The Funeral Service will take place on Friday, February 2, 2018, at 2:00pm, at the Calvary Lutheran Church in La Glace (10002 101 Ave.). Interment to follow at Northfield Cemetery.
Memorial donations may be made to Calvary Lutheran Church (Box 204, La Glace, AB T0H 2J0) or to a charity of one’s choice.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to Philip's family. Hold tight to the memories as they give one much joy. One of my best memories is skating on the ice in the swampy area across the road from the Kildal farm. The boys had cleaned the ice the best they could but you had to manouver around the grass and cattail bushes. His smile was infectious.

Kathyrn, I am so sorry for the tremendous and tragic loss you and your children are experiencing. Philip was a bright energy in this world and shone on your children and grandchildren. I know you will experience a huge loss and i know the memories of Philip/your Dad will bring smirks and smiles to you all in the coming days. I have fond memories of gut splitting laughter when he was around. A bright light has gone out. Smile just knowing you were chosen to be part of his circle to know and love him. Warm regards. Kirsten

Deepest sympathies to the entire family. A Husband, Father, Grandpa he will be missed. I always enjoyed listening to the stories Nikolina shared of her childhood on the farm and looked forward to hearing new fun filled ones every time she came back from a visit. May fond memories bring comfort during this sad time.
