Obituary For Phyllis Caroline Sherk
Phyllis Caroline Sherk (nee Christopherson) passed away with family by her side, on Sunday, February 24, 2019, at the age of 89 years.
Phyllis was born November 27, 1929 in Cadillac, SK. At the tender age of 2 months, Phyl, her two older sisters (aged 1 and 2), along with their mother, travelled by train to the beautiful Peace River country, to a cabin in the woods at White Mountain, near Spirit River, AB. Early years were spent on the family farms at Valhalla Centre and Halcourt.
In 1949, Phyl married Donald Sherk and they enjoyed a long life together on Broadview Farm near Huallen. There, they welcomed their children, Lloyd, Rena and Terry, into their family. What a busy household it was; they were involved in church, 4-H, sports, music, Beaverlodge Band, Registered Seed Growers, county fairs and community events. Besides supporting her family in their numerous endeavours, Phyl enjoyed and excelled at many crafts, baking buns, quilting, weaving, wood carving and anything to do with her grandchildren. She was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. Her door and her heart were always open to everyone.
Phyl leaves behind her children: Lloyd (Wendy) Sherk, Rena Kyle and Terry Vavrek (Dennis); sisters: Arlene Martin, Verona Sturrock and Mary Bartman; grandchildren: Kari (Darren), Kris (Kim), Peter (Michelle), Royce, Kameron (Holly), Erika (Chris), Derek (Kara), Logan (Ali) and Serena (Rick); great-grandchildren: Kaylyn and Joel Thomas, Ali and Brynn Tremblay, Paisley, Sawyer and Nash Kyle, Lukas Kyle, Lydia and Jacob Doyer, Gunnar and Reid Vavrek, and Delilah Durose. She will also be missed by life long friend and cousin Nora Hassall, nieces, nephews and friends.
Phyl was predeceased by her husband Don, son in-law Andy, parents Clarence and Hazel Christopherson, sister Louise (Don), and brothers in-law Harry Sherk (Edna), Conley Martin, Dave Sturrock and Don Bartman.
We would like to thank Mackenzie Place staff for the kindness shown to Mom over the last few years. Your tender, compassionate care made her stay comfortable and pleasant.
A Memorial Service for Phyllis will be held Sunday, March 17, 2019, at 2:30pm, at Beaverlodge United Church (403 10 St.). Inurnment will take place later in the summer.

Johnson Linda
Lloyd, Rena & Terry- On the bus ride past your place I can recall being very impressed with "Broadview Farm" (it took up two sides of the road, was always freshly painted, was always really tidy and was the only rural place I knew with a sign across the top of the barn!) Hats off to your parents for the hard work that made all that happen. When I grew old enough and brave enough to stay away from home your folks were so nice to me - and as an added bonus your mom was a darn good cook and the house was impressively spotless. As the years have moved on and we have all gone our separate ways I kinda lost track of what your mom was up to - but I'll bet until her health failed her she remained a busy, community minded lady. It is pretty nifty that Dennis & I now live on "Christopherson" dirt. You are welcome to come by anytime you want a connection with your family tree roots. Sympathy and Condolences on the Loss of Your Mother - Linda (&Dennis too) Johnson
