Phyllis Mary Povey, resident of Grande Prairie, AB, passed away Sunday, December 31, 2023, at the Grande Prairie Regional Hospital, at the age of 81 years.

Phyllis was born on October 15, 1942, in Inverness, Scotland. She came to Canada by boat, with her mother in 1944, and was raised in the BC. interior.

She married Harold Povey in 1962, and they moved to Alberta in 1964.

Phyllis was a homemaker and an avid gardener, loved animals, and caring for others. But first and foremost, she was a mother.

She will be sadly missed by her children: Kathryn Povey, Karen (Dale) Walsh, David Povey, Sheryl Povey, Steven Povey, and daughter-in-law Char Povey; grandchildren: Geoffrey Walsh, Brendan (Charlie) Walsh, and Cynthia (Lacy) Johnson; great-grandson Rhett Benjamin Walsh; brothers: Stan Carter and Bobby (Carol) Carter; sisters-in-law: Terry Povey and Janice Povey; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Phyllis was predeceased by her husband Harold in 2012; parents Bob and Evelyn Carter; parents-in-law Tom and Barb Povey; sister Doris (Robert); great-grandson Talon Jacob Walsh; daughter-in-law Juanita Povey; as well as Harold’s siblings: George, Marlene, and Ron.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, January 13, 2024, at 1:00 pm, at the Grande Prairie Care Centre Chapel (9705-94 ave.) in Grande Prairie. Donations may be made to the Kidney Foundation of Canada www.kidney.ca), or to The Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada (www.heartandstroke.ca).
