Obituary For Ray Irwin Emerson
It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Ray Irvin Emerson on Thursday, January 19, 2017, at the age of 105 years, at the Manoir Du Lac, in McLennan, AB.
Ray was born in Ward County, North Dakota on January 15, 1912, the eighth youngest of eight sisters and four brothers.
Arriving in Canada by train in 1928, he stayed with and worked with family and neighbours who had arrived in Canada earlier until acquiring a homestead south of Eaglesham at the age of 16.
On April 27, 1937, he married Elsie Childers, his wife of 71 years, and they had four children: Irvin, Raymond (June). Allan (Claire), and Sylvia (John). There are five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his wife Elsie and son Irvin, as well as seven of his sisters and four brothers.
The family would like to thank the caregivers and staff at the Manoir Du Lac for their care and compassion.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date

My heart smiles when I see that picture of Ray. 105 years young! It feels like yesterday that I would visit him out on the farm. We would have a cup of coffee and he would admit he ate a few more cookies than he should. I guess that sugar didn't hurt him a bit! God bless your family. Sending hugs

I was reading on Facebook and came across Ray's obituary. We are away in Yuma since November so were unaware of his passing. We want to let you know that we admired this man. He always was ready for a good chat and was very interesting to visit with. I admired the way he looked after his home place, always so neat and painted up. I want to commend his daughter in law, June, for the blessing that she was to him while he was at home on the farm all those years. Condolences to his family, Allan and Claire, Raymond and June, Sylvia and John.

We were saddened to hear of the passing of our friend and former close neighbor, Ray Emerson. Ray lived to the good age of 105 years and his passing marks the end of an era. Ray is the last of the early pioneers who filed on raw land and settled in the Fox Creek area in the late 1920's. There were no caterpillars in those early days and the pioneers cleared their land with saws, axes, grub hoes and horse-drawn braking plows. There are many stories of the hardships and successes of those early pioneers that we now wish we had written down and recorded. We wish to extend our sincere condolences to Raymond (June), Allan (Claire), Sylvia (John) and their families on the passing of their father/grandfather/great-grandfather. Our thoughts are with you at this time! LeRoy (Jeannette) Larson

Hello to you all. I am so sorry for your loss. Thank you for the obituary you posted of your Dad's life and the good photo of him. Of course, I remember your Dad very well. He was always part of our community growing up and I know he was one of the original group of people, along with my Dad, Louis Larson, who came from Minot, ND, to homestead on land in the Eagelsham area. Your Dad was always friendly and kind to all us kids up there, and he lived a good life. I know you will all miss him every day. May you be comforted by remembering his hard, honest work and the legacy he left behind for you all to follow. Sincerely, Emilie Larson-Friesen
