Obituary For Richard Gordon Moon
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Richard Moon, forever resident of Grande Prairie, AB, on Friday, January 31, 2025, at 75 years of age.
Richard was born and raised in Grande Prairie, and to which he lovingly referred to as “God’s Country”. He was a devout entrepreneur; starting at a young age with Prism Glass, then Richie’s Drive-In, spent many years doing residential painting and finally his most recent endeavour, SJB Facilities, which was an acronym for his three children.
Richard was predeceased by his mother, Irene Moon; his father, Gordon Moon; and his sister, Barbra Yelenik.
Richard is survived by his three children, Stacey Moon, Jamie Moon and Braden Moon (Alicia Szmata); his beloved grandchildren, Deklin Haglund and Mienna McCumber; his siblings Elaine Stokke, Kathy Doerkson (Butch), Don Moon (Erna), Dan Moon (Karyn), Karen Moon, Brent Moon as well as numerous nephews, nieces and extended family; and lifetime basketball teammate and best friend, Danny Zeyha (Sheila).
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Grande Prairie Regional Hospital, Pearson Place (Hythe) as well as Prairie Lake (Grande Prairie) for their care of our dad in his final years.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Richard’s memory may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation (https://www.heartandstroke.ca/).
A viewing and prayer service will be held on Friday, February 21, 2025, from 6:00 until 8:00 pm at Oliver’s Funeral Home (10005 - 107 Ave).
A Funeral service will follow on Saturday, February 22, 2025, at 10:00 am at Oliver’s Funeral Home.
Friends are invited to join the family for a luncheon after the service.
