Obituary For Richard Pankiw
Richard Pankiw, resident of Sunset House, AB, passed away suddenly on Thursday, May 30, 2019, at the QEII Hospital in Grande Prairie, AB, at the age of 64 years.
Richard was born May 19, 1955 in Elk Point, AB where he was raised. He did his schooling there and then attended Lakeland College in Vermilion for agriculture engineering. He then became a heavy-duty mechanic apprenticing with Little Implements in Vermilion. He taught heavy-duty mechanics as on the job training in Kehiwan. He then moved his family to the Grande Prairie area where he grain farmed for many years and sold farm machinery. From there, he got his real estate licence and continued to do real estate and ranching.
Richard met and married Dawn Kathan in 1977 and together they had four children.
Richard had a true passion as a cowboy. He loved his ranch out at Sunset House where he spent most of his time doing what he loved: riding his horse, working his cattle, enjoying the view with his dog Auzzy, quading, hunting, fishing and enjoying the outdoors. He had a great love and pride for his children and grandchildren.
Richard will be sadly missed by his children: Tanya Pankiw (Rick Sloat), Michelle Cormack (Chad Cormack), Clayton Pankiw (Samantha Archer), and Tricia Reynolds (Dan Reynolds); Tanya’s children: Easton, Brooke, and Maddox; Michelle’s children: Cade and Kenzie; Clayton’s children: Jaydin, Nolan, and Rindee; Tricia’s children: Tristyn and Taya; sister Brenda (Ken) Hladunewich and family; sister Elaine (Harvey) Aarbo and family; brother David (Bernadette) Pankiw and family; brother Norman Pankiw and family; as well as many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his mother Pauline Pankiw and father Peter Pankiw.
A Funeral Service will be held on Friday, June 7, 2019, at 2:00pm, at Sunset House Community Centre in Sunset House.

Dear Clayton, It is with the greatest sadness that I send this note to you and your family. Your Dad was so special to me and we became great friends from a distance. Some would say we were "soul connections or kindred spirits". The loss of your Dad from my life will be felt for many years. Richard was an incredibly smart, kind, gentle, caring man that I adored. I'm so sorry for your loss of a wonderful father that loved you beyond words. Please take of yourself and his beloved dog Aussie and the horses he loved so much. I know your Dad was at peace leaving this earth when it was his time. But we ran out of time to enjoy and love him. God bless you and your family. Hugs and love. Lisa
