Obituary For Rick Hammel

Rick Hammel, resident of Sexsmith, AB, passed away on Friday, November 16, 2018, at the age of 61 years.

Rick was born in Kindersley, SK on April 5, 1957 to Ned and Dorothy Hammel. He was raised on a farm in the Glidden, SK area with his 3 brothers and a sister. Rick attended school in Glidden and Kindersley. He worked for the Saskatchewan Wheat Pool for a number of years. After that, he started working in the oil field around Kindersley. He moved to Alberta in 1994 to work in the oilfield in the Grande Prairie area. Rick retired in May of 2016, but would fill in when he was called upon by his previous employer.

Rick and Debbie were married in 1995. Debbie joined Rick in Alberta and they began their married life on their acreage by Sexsmith. In December 1999, Jeremy was born and their little family was complete. They spent many hours on their acreage enjoying the fresh air, adventures through the trees, campfires, wildlife and the many other animals Jeremy and Debbie would bring home. They had many adventures camping, fishing, boating, and travelling. Rick and Jeremy enjoyed spending time together hunting, fishing and tenting and, the last couple of years, tinkering on vehicles. Rick was showing Jeremy the ins and outs of fixing his own and Jeremy's friends’ vehicles.

Rick was very proud of Jeremy and his accomplishments. He enjoyed travelling to his various football, basketball, and other sporting activities. Rick had built a greenhouse this past spring. He and Debbie were looking forward to growing their own produce this winter. He always supported Debbie and her many adventures with her teaching career from building stage pieces to delivering crickets for the classroom pet lizard.

Rick will be deeply missed by his wife Debbie; son Jeremy; mom Dorothy Hammel; brothers Ed (Gwen) Hammel, and Vern (Kerry) Hammel; as well as many nieces and nephews whom he shared many stories of with Debbie about when they were younger and visiting their uncle Rick. He will also be missed by his in-laws: Earl and Dolores Dupuis, Les (Norma) Dupuis, and Patti Dupuis.

Rick was predeceased by his dad Ned Hammel, brother Larry Hammel, and sister Betty Sanborn.

Memorial donations may be made to STARS Ambulance (10911 123 St., Grande Prairie, AB, T8V 7Z3).
