It is with great sorrow that we mourn the loss of our beloved mother Riet Linssen. She passed peacefully in the early hours of Tuesday, January 5, 2021.

Riet was born in Nijmegen, Holland on July 19, 1940. The third of four children to Marinus and Johanna “Annie” Wels.

Riet married the love of her life Anthony (“Tom” or “Toon”) John Linssen on February 27, 1960 at the tender age of 19. They immediately embarked on an adventurous lifelong journey of immigrating to Canada, with Grande Prairie, AB being the chosen destination. They set down roots and called it home.

Riet enjoyed being a mom and when her children got to be school age, she became a school bus driver which gave her the ability to have a similar schedule to theirs. She later enjoyed working at Crouse’s Cleaners.

Riet is survived by her daughter Trudy (Jerry) Wynnychuk and grandsons Dwayne and Darren; daughter Connie (Ken) Steigenberger; son Renee (Doreen) and grandchildren: Chase, Tanner, and Hunter; son Anthony “Ant” (Dawn) and grandsons: Colin, Ryan (Marla) and Dylan; great-grandchildren: Ryan and Marla’s daughters Serenity and Ariyah, and Colin’s son Dakota; and sister Joke (Joop) Van Houten in Holland.

Riet was predeceased by her husband Tom “Toon”, daughter Amanda, parents Marinus and Annie, sister Tonnie, brother Gerrit and his wife Alie.

Due to Covid-19 restrictions, a private family interment service will be held in the spring. Mom will be laid to rest alongside her husband Tom and daughter Amanda in Grande Prairie Cemetery.
