Robert “Bob” Mayer, resident of Grande Prairie, AB, passed away Sunday, April 24, 2022, at home while holding the hand of his wife (of 53 years), at the age of 74 years. Bob and Linda had three wonderful children while moving around Alberta, settling in Grande Prairie in 1981.
Bob leaves behind his loving wife Linda; his son Allan and wife Karen, and son Anson; his daughter Leigh and husband Joseph Lyttle, and children Madyson and Declan; his son Anthony and wife Laura Matheson; as well as sister Elaine and husband Roman Kushneryk.
Bob was predeceased by his brothers Steve and Ernest, and his parents John and Mary.

Linda and family, so sorry to hear of Bob's passing. I often reflect on our McLennan days, the work we did and the fun we had. Some of my best memories are the steak fries we had. Bob's rules, new comers bought steak, Bob would order them from the butcher Omar LaFlamme, (inch thick T-bone, leave the tails on for the cook, and marinated with beer). When they transferred out the detachment bought them a mug and the steaks. He was our senior constable and a great leader and no matter what had our backs. The Christmas parties, Santa Bob entertaining the seniors, they were good times. RIP Bob, thanks for the memories. Linda, all the best to you and you're family from Linda and I.

Bob & I worked together at the Towne Centre Mall for many years. We would meet 'out in the back'. There he chatted about his family, hobbies and his job before his semi retirement job...haha. He was definitely a wonderful man and will be missed by many. Thinking of you, Linda as you transition without the love of your life here on earth. I hope knowing others think of you brings some peace. Lynn Chapman

Linda and family we were shocked to hear of Bob's passing; our sincerest condolences to you and your family. Must say, the sad news brought back so many wonderful memories of our time together as green horn constables in Grande Prairie back in the 1960's. We worked and played hard but always had fun. Bob introduced me to two things - crib and moonshine - talk about white lightning with a blue flame..., and he made a small fortune off my learning curve with cards. While it has been well over 50 years since we were together, the memories of our time together made it seem like yesterday. We last spoke at my brother-in-law's funeral in 2019. Was just so comforting to see a familiar face. Sherrill and I watched the lovely service and it was so nice seeing and hearing your son talk about your family. Seeing and hearing Grant Churchill taking us down memory lane with Bob was truly a highlight for us as well. Forever in our hearts. -Harry and Sherrill Southern

Linda and family. We are very sorry to hear of Bob's passing. It is hard to believe that it was 50 years ago that I first met you folks in Mclennan. I remember many late nights where the only place you could get a coffee was at the Linda cafe. Bob would always say that Linda would not mind as she liked the company even thou it would be 2-3 am. On more than one of those nights I would sit in Bob;s house coat while Linda sewed the seam of my pants back together so we could go back on patrol. Donna and I are fondly remembering many of our times together with Bob and his sense of humour. All the best to you all. Bob will be missed. Roy and Donna Smith

Linda and family I was so saddened by this news. I worked with Bob as an investigator for EI and he made the job fun but also presented insights. Coffee breaks at the GP Co Op and later at A&W were a hoot with Our regulars I sure miss those times. I was so happy to connect with Bob several years ago when he was in Calgary house sitting at Leanne's home. I am planning to connect in for the service and will miss my friend ,Bob. My condolences to you and your family and I hope you are able to recall the special times with Bob as you say goodbye to your husband, father and grandfather. Shirley Shaw

Linda and family, Our deep and sincere condolences on Bob's passing. Whether it was his façade of crustiness or the stoic silence while he listened before he imparted his wisdom, he had a heart of gold and was always there to support or help anyone who needed it. And you knew at some point in a conversation there was going to be a laugh to be shared. Or those moments when he got that twinkle in his eye and you knew he was up to some form of mischief that would result in laughter. He is one of the best. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all. Rest in Peace Bob. -Ian and Sharon Sanderson

Linda and family, sending our warmest thoughts and deepest condolences to you all. Bob was my shift Cpl in GP when I arrived there as a young female recruit in early 1991. Initially presenting as a big gruff man, I was terrified. But I soon saw the soft side of Bob and he became my work dad. (He even did my taxes:) Bob was protective and always supportive. Bob was always there. Over coffee Bob spoke fondly of Linda and the kids. He was so proud of all of you and always had a story to tell. At work Bob was very protective of his 'watch'. I have clear memories of him calling after me to take Bobo when going to questionable calls as I hustled past his office trying to go alone . Bob used to stand on the sidewalk each day shift in uniform puffing on his swisher sweets as I rolled by to pick him up on my Kawasaki . What a sight we must have been! Bob taught us all so much about policing. He was firm but fair. He was so knowledgable and I really cannot remember ever asking him a question that he didn't know the answer to. He knew everyone . He was a walking road map of GP and could easily get you unlost based on as vague description of what was around you. He knew where all the bad guys lived. He knew where to get the best dry ribs. He knew that some cans in the pop machine were not pop. He was one of the best supervisors I had the privilege to work for. He made work fun and was always up to something, like Firecrackers in garbage cans at 3 am. Bob was one of a kind and he made GP a better place. Rest easy Bob. You will always be remembered ❤️

Linda and family..I am so sorry to hear this very sad news. Bob and I worked together on Stony Plain Highway Patrol back in 1976. Jim Munro was the Sgt.i/ c. Steve MacDonald, Kurt Sorley and Peter Sopow were a few others. We wrote a whole lot of tickets in those days..Many of those were by aircraft patrols. We also ran a lot of radar patrols .The good old days .Days that I refer to " When Mounties were Mounties and the towns people were nervous". Lynda, Bob was a Cops Cop. I had less that two years service when I went to HP ..Bob taught me everything he new. I am so much better from lessons learned from a great teacher. Bob will be sorely missed by all who knew him..Rest easy Bob. We will continue to protect the thin blue line in his memory..God bless..
