Obituary For Robert Patrick "Rick" Campbell

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Robert Patrick "Rick" Campbell, aged 74, who left us on Saturday, April 22, 2017.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years Joan Campbell; children: Rob (Val) Campbell, Sheilagh (Gerald) Barlage, and Bruce (Melanie) Campbell; grandchildren: Lauren, Rhys, Cole, Carsten, and Brysten; and sister: Judi (Guy) Sanders.

He was predeceased by his parents Bob and Pat Campbell.

Rick was born May 20, 1942 in Winnipeg, MB. He lived in several northern towns before moving to Grande Prairie a few days before starting grade one in September, 1948.

After completing a Bachelor of Science Degree in Pharmacy from the University of Alberta, Rick returned to Grande Prairie where he would open and run two businesses for the better part of 30 years: Campbell Drugs, and Village Pharmacy.

Rick retired from the pharmacy business to build a new business around his hobby of RVing. He built Camp Tamarack RV Park in the summer of 1998/winter of 1999, and opened the park in the spring of 1999. Rick, who loved working with the public, enjoyed running the day to day operations of Camp Tamarack RV Park for 14 years.

Rick enjoyed golfing, skiing, flying small planes, RVing, winters in Arizona, and his two favorite sport teams: the Edmonton Oilers and the Edmonton Eskimos.

Rick was a handy man who built the homes that his family lived in, and he was also an avid collector of tools, books and jackets. A hard-working, calm, caring, and trusting gentleman, Rick will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved him.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, May 6, 2017, at 11:00am, at Christ Church Anglican in Grande Prairie (6610 Poplar Drive, Grande Prairie). A reception will be held at the church following the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in honor of Rick may be directed to the Campbell Family Fund c/o The Community Foundation of Northwestern Alberta, No. 200, 11330 - 106 Street, Grande Prairie, AB T8V 7X9.

As Judi knows, I first met Rick when he was six years old. My wife Maxine and I have stayed in touch over the past almost 70 years. He grew into a man that his parents were proud of, a man who did things, and I find it sad that he passed away at such a young age. Hal and Maxine Tipper
