Obituary For Robert Peel
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Robert “Bob” John Peel of Grande Prairie, Alberta, on Wednesday, April 4, 2018, at the age of 91 years. Formerly of Chilliwack, BC, Keg River, AB, and Grimshaw, AB.
Dad always enjoyed the outdoors. As a youngster, his idle time pursuits were fishing and hunting. His life work included logging, farming, cattle feed lot operator and sawmill owner.
After retirement, Bob and Mona travelled to many parts of the world, wintered in Arizona and enjoyed an outdoor lifestyle that involved hiking, backpacking, biking and camping. Bob developed an interest in lapidary and silversmithing. He enjoyed developing his own designs and, together with Mona, they sold their wares at many farmers markets and craft sales across Alberta.
He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.
Robert is survived by his sister Iris Gehman; children: Lionel (Dianne), Rod (Karen), Susan Karpisek, and Darcy (Helene); 8 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by Mona, his wife of 58 years; brother Brian Peel and sister in-law Bev; brother in-law Lorne Gehman; sister and brother in-law Barbara and Tommy Richardson; brother and sister in-law Ken and Rose Batchelor; sister and brother in-law Catherine and George Denman; and son-in law Ben Karpisek.
The family would like to thank the staff of the Grande Prairie Care Centre and the Doctors and Staff of Grande Prairie QEII Hospital for their care and assistance provided to our beloved father.
A Memorial Celebration of Robert’s Life will be held on Saturday, April 28, 2018, at 10:30am, at Oliver’s Funeral Home in Grande Prairie, AB (10005 107 Ave.). Lunch to follow in Oliver’s Tea Room.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Alberta Diabetes Foundation (1-020 Li Ka Shing Centre for Health Research Innovation, University of Alberta, Edmonton, AB, T6G 2E1).
