Rob Valstar, resident of Grande Prairie, AB, passed away on Wednesday, April 5, 2023, at the Grande Prairie Regional Hospital, at the age of 60 years.

Rob was born in Rocky Mountain House, AB, and spent most of his childhood years in High Level, AB. As a young man, Rob worked in the oil and gas industry and lived in Northern Alberta. When Rob was in his early 20’s, his son Bobby was born. He was a proud father and worked hard for his family. His daughters Vanessa and Jolissa were added to his family in 1990 and 1991. The girls were such a joy for him, and he was always very proud of them, and talked about them to anyone who would listen.

Rob met Lisa in 1997, and married the love of his life in 2009. In 2009, Rob was diagnosed with COPD. Although his health rapidly declined and caused him much pain, he remained positive and loved his life. Rob and Lisa moved from High Level to Grande Prairie in 2012, where he spent the rest of his working career as a truck driver.

In 2015, after being unable to continue working due to his illness, Rob was on medical disability. Despite physical limitations, Rob spent every moment he could with his precious granddaughters: Jordana, Jerilyn, Jennessa, and Julianne, and lived his life to the fullest.

Rob will be remembered for his hearty laugh and stories about his hunting adventures, and will be sadly missed by his loving wife Lisa, children, grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, brothers and sisters in-law, and father in-law.

Rob was predeceased by his parents Arie and Helen, and brothers: Harry, Dale, and Walter.

A Viewing will be held on Saturday, April 8, 2023, from 10:00am - 12:00pm, at Oliver’s Funeral Home in Grande Prairie (10005 107 Ave.).

A Graveside Service will be held on Wednesday, April 12, 2023, at 2:00pm, at Pine Grove Cemetery in Rocky Mountain House.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, April 29, 2023, at 1:00pm, at Oliver’s Funeral Home.
