Obituary For Roland Edmond Ouellette

It is with heavy hearts that the family of Roland Edmond Ouellette announce his passing in Grande Prairie, AB, on Monday, August 26, 2024, at the age of 91 years.

Roland was born in a little log shack on the homestead in Lac Magloire, AB, on December 27, 1932, the second eldest son of Adelard and Jeanne (nee Arcand) Ouellette. He was raised in a farm setting along with his two brothers and four sisters. Roland attended school until grade 8. After his father’s retirement in 1962, he continued to farm with his brothers, forming a partnership called “Ouellette Bros.” He married Doris Turcotte in 1952 and together they had five children. The land was sold in 1980, and Roland started a new chapter in his life with partner, Helen Cote. They moved to St. Albert and he started working for Grimshaw Trucking, he also took on the job as a bus driver for a short period of time. After his retirement in 1991, they moved to a small acreage on the outskirts of Girouxville, AB. Enjoying camping, fishing at Shawspoint and travelling to their cabin at Sam’s Flats. Roland also liked hunting in Debolt with his sons and friends, as well as getting in many good games of golf at Five Star. They purchased a mobile home and moved to Falher, AB, in 2001.

After Helen’s passing in 2009 Roland moved to a senior apartment in Girouxville for a short time before returning to Falher and residing at the Manoire. His love of golf led him to meet his partner, Gertrude Rivard. Five Star and the Chalet became a big part of his life. They vacationed together to the Dominican Republic in 2012 and 2013.

He moved to the Villa Beausejour in 2018 until 2021, moving on to Clairmont, AB, and then to his last residence at the Heritage Lodge in Grande Prairie in November of 2022.

Roland is survived by his special friend Gertrude Rivard, his five children: Lyse Tremblay-Turner, Jo-Ann Langlois (Bob), Jack Ouellette (Denise), Guy Ouellette (Kim) and Lynn Simard (Claude); thirteen grandchildren: Bradley Tremblay (Loni), Jody-Dawn Langlois-Doyle (Bobby), Lonnie Nielson, Jennifer Ouellette-Pearce (Rob), Chelsea Ouellette-Surman (Daryl), Jenelle Ouellette-Castonguay (Shawn), Nolan Garriock (Kelsie), Nathan Ouellette (Cayleigh), Corbin Ouellette, Austin Ouellette, Sophie Simard, Shanae Simard (Lawrence), Jory Simard (Mikayla); nineteen great-grandchildren: Brendan Tremblay, Kallum Tremblay, Amelia Tremblay, Saddie Tremblay, Dakota Langlois, Trae Jabs, Gage Nielson, River Nielson, Harrison Pearce, Maverick Pearce, Olive Pearce, Elizabeth Surman, Tessa Surman, Bentley Castonguay, Khol Castonguay, Van Garriock, Tobin Ouellette, Ryker Cheeke, Brysen Cheeke; one great-great-grandson Lincoln Tremblay; sisters: Jeannine Babineau, Therese (George) Gour, Cecile (Roland) Sasseville, Marie (Roy) Stark, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Roland was predeceased by his partner Helen Cote; son-in-laws: Alphee Tremblay, Alan Turner, Marc Langlois, Dennis Langlois; daughter-in-law Tina Lortie-Ouellette; grandson Brian Tremblay; grandson-in-law Ryan Nielson; parents: Adelard & Jeanne (nee Arcand) Ouellette; brothers and sisters-in-laws: Lionel (Georgette) Ouellette, Richard (Elsie) Ouellette; as well as brother-in-law Hector Babineau.

A Celebration of Life will be held next year on Saturday, September 13th, 2025, at 1:30 PM at the Five Mile Community Hall in the County of Grande Prairie, AB (714003 Range Rd. 53).
