Obituary For Roy Dennis Larson

It is with great sadness that the family of Roy Dennis Larson, announces his passing on Wednesday, September 21, 2022, in Calgary, AB, at the age of 71 years. Roy was born on March 14, 1951, in Grande Prairie, AB, the third of five children of Bert and Helen Larson. He was raised on a farm in the Eaglesham area. In 1975, Roy married Georgie McBean and had two children, Stacey and Garrett. In addition to farming and trucking, Roy enjoyed many successful years working in the oilfield, most of which were spent running his company, Roy Larson Construction. Roy was an active and avid outdoorsman throughout his life, taking any opportunity to go hunting, fishing, boating, flying, snowmobiling, golfing, running, and riding his bike, all of which he loved doing with his friends and family. His life was filled with adventure and good times. Roy enjoyed traveling with Georgie when they were not in Kelowna or spending their winters in Phoenix.

Above all, his number one priority was family. Fiercely protective and loyal, Roy always had time for his family. Stacey and Garrett could count on their dad being there, guiding them from childhood into their adult lives, providing helpful advice or support of any kind as needed. The arrival of grandkids was a proud time for Roy. He cherished special moments with each of them. Roy could be found cheering them on at a rink, gym, field, or pool, giving them driving lessons, pulling them on the lake, or just being present with them while sharing his wisdom and telling stories.

Among those left to lovingly remember him are his wife Georgie; daughter Stacey and son in-law Jay Hanzel and their children Bree and Paige; daughter in-law Jennifer Larson and her and Garrett’s children: Cohan, Chloe, and Lily. He also will be greatly missed by his sister Sharon (Wes) Reeves, numerous nephews, nieces, cousins, and his many friends. Roy was predeceased by his beloved son Garrett; parents Bert and Helen; siblings Ivan, Lowell, and Otine, as well as brother in-law Alywn McBean. A Celebration of Life will be held for Roy on Saturday, October 22, 2022, at 11:00am, at Oliver’s Funeral Home in Grande Prairie (10005 107 Ave.).

A Livestream of the service will be accessible 15 minutes prior to the service on Roy’s obituary on Oliver’s Funeral Home website.

Memorial Donations may be made to the Tom Baker Cancer Centre (1331 29 St NW, Calgary, AB, T2N 4N2).
