Obituary For Russell Ames

Russell Fred Ames, born May 17, 1928 in Bezanson, AB, passed away surrounded by family on Saturday, November 14, 2015 at the QEII Hospital, at the age of 87 years.

Russell enjoyed life, was a man of great work ethic, and was blessed with many talents. He and Joan loved to dance and have several medals won at various Provincial Seniors Games.

We will remember him when we hear some beloved dance music, or in the fall when the crops in the fields are ripe for harvest, or see a shiny red GMC pick-up truck. We will remember and love you forever.

Russell will be greatly missed by his wife of 67 years Joan, son Danny (Donna), daughter Terry (Roland) LaCroix; grandchildren: Tammy (Wayne), Darcy (Shelley), Renee (Darryl), Holly (Brady) and Jennifer. His 13 great-grandchildren: Kalyssa, Naomi, Braeden, Tristan, Josie, Reid, Brinley, Trey, Quinn, Cohan, Chloe, Alexa and Lily were a source of great pride and joy. Russell is also survived by his sisters Edith (Milfred), Fern (Ron), and Ruby; sisters in-law Betty and Jean, brother in-law Allan, as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents Fred and Edna Ames, parents in-law Ira and Nellie McLaughlin, as well as many brothers in-law and sisters in-law.

An informal Open House Memorial Tea will be held on Friday, November 20, 2015 from 2:00pm – 4:00pm at the Golden Age Centre in Grande Prairie (10222 101 Ave.) Cremation has taken place, and a private family burial will take place at a later date.

Memorial Donations may be made to the Grande Prairie Golden Age Centre (10222 101 Ave, Grande Prairie, AB, T8V 0Y5) or to a local charity of one's choice.

We just heard in Arizona. A wonderful cousin will be missed. Always had a smile and was known for his friendly teasing. A good storyteller of funny jokes, too. Always had great conversations with him. So sorry to hear that he has left us. Until we meet again . . . Love, Mel & Gail Delaney

You are on my mind very often, especially when we are in Arizona for the winter and meet people from Grand Prairie. Don't know what made me look today, but found Russell's Obituary and was so sad to hear. Every once in a while I would do a search and find pictures of you and Russell in the newspaper dancing or winning awards for senior sporting events. I always plan to get to see you on a trip West and still hope to. I hope you are keeping well and know that you are in my thoughts often. I have Mom's photos of you and Russell when they visited you and when you came to Cedar Hill. They always bring a smile, they enjoyed your company so much. Take care of yourself.
