Obituary For Ruth Neufeld Lowen
Ruth Helen Lowen, resident of Beaverlodge Alberta, formerly of Lymburn, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, August 20, 2016 at the age of 72 years.
Ruth was born on June 22, 1944 in Didsbury, Alberta. She was the youngest child of Reverend C.G. and Agatha Neufeld. After attending Rosthern Junior College, she moved to Hythe, where she met the love of her life, George. They married on October 12, 1963, settled in Lymburn and raised four children. Ruth took a job as a local school bus driver for Peace Wapiti for many years. This soon became more than a job, as the bus kids quickly became part of her extended family. She retired at the age of 65 and found a new passion. She took up quilting full-time. She created and donated many quilts over the years; every single one was unique and stitched with love.
She will be sadly missed by her husband George Lowen, their four children: Larry (Joy) Lowen, Carolyn (Paul) Bartsch, Rodney (Brenda) Lowen and Byron (Larysa) Lowen; their 13 grandchildren: Brent (Lesley) Lowen, Mandi (Dan Chabot) Lowen, Juanita Bartsch, Barbara (Mike) Toupin, Trevor (Tennille) Bartsch, MacKenzie Lowen, Jonathan (Nadya Debegorski) Lowen, Bryne (Taylor Hoag) Lowen, Tia (Travis McKeague) Lowen, Taylor Lowen, Baeley (Dustin Underwood) Lowen, Reese Lowen, and Anastasia (Igor) Shevkun; and their 13 great-grand children: Lennon Lowen, Scarlett and Ryker Toupin, Emery, Edyson and Declyn Bartsch, Dejan Oakes-Turudija, Nova and Ava Hoag-Lowen, Rylee and Ryann Lowen, Gleb and Damir Shevkun. She will also be sadly missed by her brothers: Elmer (Erna) Neufeld, Harvey (Sarah) Neufeld, Vernon (Ruth) Neufeld; and sister Lydia (Aaron) Derksen; as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family and all who had the pleasure of knowing her.
Ruth was predeceased by her parents Cornelius G. and Agatha Neufeld, sister Joyce Patricia and sister in-law Anne Neufeld.
The Viewing will be held on Thursday, August 25, 2016, from 7:00-9:00pm at Oliver’s Funeral Home in Grande Prairie (10005 107 Ave.).
The Memorial Service is going to be held Friday, August 26, 2016 at 2:00pm at the Beaverlodge Alliance Church (409 10th St.), with Faspa (lunch) to follow. A private family interment is scheduled for 6:00pm at the Salem Mennonite Cemetery in Lymburn.
Memorial donations may be made to Quilts of Valour - Canada Society Treasurer (1351 de Papillon Place Ottawa, ON K4A 1Y9). Quilts of Valour supports injured Canadian Armed Forces members with quilts of comfort made by quilters like our mom. Or to the Tarahumara Ministries through Dr. Camellia Presley, who helped make it possible for mom to stay at home surrounded by her family (Box 822 Beaverlodge, AB T0H 0C0). Dr. Presley donates her time and resources to this organization and provides for the medical needs of the people at the boarding school and surrounding area.
