Obituary For Sam Jr. Werboweski

Sam Werboweski Jr, resident of Spirit River, AB, passed away on Saturday, August 31, 2024, at the Central Peace Health Complex in Spirit River, at the age of 90 years.

Sam was born on October 10,1933, in Spirit River to parents, Sam and Mary. He grew up with his brother John on the family farm northwest of Spirit River. Sam had a passion for farming and hauling gravel with his new truck. He eventually went farming full time until he retired. Sam married Catherine Kolotylo in 1958, and together raised their three children on the family farm.

He was an active member in his community and volunteered numerous hours for various groups and committees. Sam enjoyed curling, debating politics, card games, and in his later years golf, although he was not very good at it. He also quite enjoyed it when the grandkids would come visit at the farm.

Sam will be sadly missed by his beloved wife Catherine (nee Kolotylo); children: Harvey (Shelley), Shirley (Don), and Kevin (Colleen); grandchildren: Travis Bilawchuk (Jess), Dalyce Book (Travis), Tyler Werboweski, Chris Werboweski (Candace), Eric Werboweski (Jenifer), and Lindsay Allard (Mike); great-grandchildren: Cole Bilawchuk, Azalea Bilawchuk, Joshua Book, Caleb Book, Brooklyn Book, and Lydia Allard.

Sam was predeceased by his parents, Sam Sr. and Mary Werboweski; and brother John Werboweski.

A Graveside Service will be held on Sunday, October 13, 2024, 2:00 PM at the Ksituan Ukrainian Catholic Cemetery.

There will be a funeral procession from Spirit River to the Ksituan Ukrainian Catholic Cemetery, departure will be at 1:00 PM on October 13, 2024.

If you wish to participate, please arrive prior to 1:00 pm, starting location is 4604 – 47 Ave. Parking is available in the school parking lot located on the west side of the house.

Directions from Spirit River to the Ksituan Ukrainian Catholic Cemetery are as follows:

10km West of Spirit River on HWY 49.Turn North onto HWY 727, go 15km.Turn West on Township Road 800, go 3.2km.Turn South on Range Road 73, go 0.4km.The church will be on the West side of Range Road 73.

Following the Grave Side service, at 3:00 pm lunch and coffee will be available at the United Church Hall (4906-45 Ave, Spirit River).
