It is with peace in our hearts that we the children of Shirley Ann Steinke, announce her passing on the evening of Monday, July 1, 2024, at the age of 80.

She leaves behind her children: Duane Ventress (Hilda), Kathleen Ventress, and Shari Powell (Terry); grandchildren: Kyle Pickell (Diedre), Kristen Pickell (Chris), Shona Powell (Steve), Justin Powell (Mary), and Taylor Powell; as well as great-grandchildren: Jaxon Wager, Leonidis and Thanos Koustopodiotis, Nico Pickell and Tyson Powell. Also surviving Shirley are her siblings: Harvey Johnson (Marilyn), Dennis Johnson (Linda), Connie Mitchell (Kelly), Raymond Johnson (Margaret) and June Saastad; along with good friend Paul McLean (Helena), and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Shirley was predeceased by her parents: Mabel and Marvin Johnson; birthfather Melvin Steinke; sister Elsie Greber; great-nephew Riley Mayer; and brother-in-law Wade Saastad.

A Graveside service will be held for Shirley on Saturday, September 21, 2024, at 11:00 AM, at the Valhalla Centre Cemetery (55.40355, -119.40933), followed by a luncheon at the Valhalla Community School (9702 100 Ave, Valhalla, AB). All are welcome to attend.

Memorial donations in Shirley’s memory may be made to the Grande Prairie Cancer Center (c/o Grande Prairie Regional Hospital Foundation) or the Grande Prairie Regional Hospital Palliative Care Society.
