Obituary For Shirley Elizabeth Webb (nee Rotenburger)

Shirley Elizabeth Webb, resident of Grande Prairie, AB, formerly of Lake Saskatoon Community, passed away on Saturday, December 17, 2022, at home with her loving husband by her side, at the age of 80 years.

Shirley was born on June 20, 1942, in Hudson Bay Junction, SK, the youngest of 7 children to Adolf and Matilda Rotenburger. The family lived in Westlock and then moved to the homestead, just outside of Grande Prairie.

Shirley met Thomas “Tom” Webb at Canfor, and they married in June of 1964. In 1968, they moved to Tom’s family farm where they welcomed their daughter Patricia and son David. Shirley and Tom lived on the farm until 2006, when they moved into Grande Prairie to eventually reside at Emerald Gardens. Family, friends, church, and community were the most important to her.

Shirley will be lovingly remembered by her husband Tom Webb; daughter Patricia (Gerald) Hafner and their family: Mathew (Stevie) Thibeault and Ivy, Nicholas (Tanya) Thibeault and Adalynn, and Kaitlee Hafner (Sean Kennedy); son David (Lisa) Webb and their family: Landon and Dean Webb; as well as nieces and nephews.

Shirley was predeceased by her parents Adolf and Matilda Rotenburger; brothers: Alfred, Wally, Herb, Fred, and Stanley; as well as sister Emma.

A Viewing will be held on Wednesday, December 28, 2022, at 10:00am, at the Faith Lutheran Church in Grande Prairie (9610 108 Ave.). Funeral Service to follow at 11:00am. Interment to follow at Lake Saskatoon Cemetery near Wembley, AB (715044, Range Rd 82).

Memorial Donations in Shirley’s memory may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Alberta and NWT (102, 9823 116 Ave., Grande Prairie, AB, T8V 4B4).

Condolences

We were shocked to hear the passing of Shirley. We secured Saskatoon Lake Hall for three years and Tom and Shirley were right there greeting us as we moved in. Our girls, now 40+ years later, say they remember both Shirley and Tom fondly. Of course Shirley and Tom were like their Grand parents! Shirley and I immediately bonded. She had such a great personality, laugh and just had fun at any given time. Tom, we're so very sorry for your loss. We know you'll miss her lots. Our deepest sympathy to you Pat, David and families. Hugs to you all. Love Dave, Mary, Amanda & Mel Frost

Tom, Pat and David my deepest sympathies. I will always remember Shirley smile and fun natured personality. Will remember all the summers out on the farm playing cards and watching the northern lights there are none in California. Thanks for all the memories.

Auntie Shirley was one of my favorite Aunts. Well, she was technically my cousin, as we came from such a large family (Hartz/ Rotenburger). My Mom , Joyce (Hartz) Schroeder and her were like sisters as they were the same age, they lived together in Edmonton , shared a basement suite when they first left home. Our family lived in Grande Prairie for a few years when we were young as my Dad (Helmuth ) was transferred there with the AWP. Those memories are so precious. I loved her laughter and her kindness. We spent lots of time out at the farm, and at family gatherings. I can't tell you how sorry I am to hear of her passing. My thoughts and prayers and love to you Uncle Tom, Pat and Gerald, David and Lisa and family. She will never be forgotten in my heart. Love, Shelley

Truly was so sorry to see this news about Shirley. Her and Tom always were so friendly and kind to all of us. They believed in getting to know their neighborhood and supported my Mom when she had the store and restaurant in Wembley. Rip Shirley, the world has lost another angel but heaven is rejoicing.

I remember Shirley and Tom well and always enjoyed their company and family visits. My dad Sam Hartz spoke fondly of them constantly. So sorry to hear of this news and hopefully the kids will find some comfort in their memories. All the best to Pat and David.
