Obituary For Shirley McKie Gliege

Shirley Wayne Gliege, resident of Clairmont, AB, passed away on Wednesday, December 9, 2020, in Grande Prairie, AB, at the age of 73 years.

Shirley was born in Edmonton, AB, on July 9, 1947. She married Arnold Gliege in 1968, and they made their home in Clairmont in 1972, where they lived ever since.

She loved her husband, her four children, and her four grandchildren. Shirley’s longest employment, 25 years, was in the senior’s lodges of the Grande Spirit Foundation. She loved helping people, especially seniors. She also loved singing, baking, knitting, and doing word-search puzzles. Shirley really enjoyed going to ladies’ groups, like the TOPS group in Clairmont or the retreats hosted by the McLaurin Baptist Church, and the monthly 55+ luncheons. She loved church and her faith was deep and sincere. She said that other than her grandma and grandpa Sargent, Jesus Christ was the greatest inspiration in her life. In turn, Shirley’s life and faith-inspired many.

Shirley will be sadly missed by her husband of 52 years, Arnold Gliege; as well as her children: Lisa, Kevin and Colleen (Randy); grandchildren: Matthew, Tiffany, Brent and Aliesha; brother Don (Ann) McKie; sister Barbara (Ian); as well as many other relatives and friends.

She was predeceased by her parents Gordon and Gloria McKie; brothers Stuart and Gordon; and son Michael.

A Celebration of Life was held for Shirley on Monday, December 14, 2020, at 2:00pm, in Grande Prairie at Oliver’s Funeral Home. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, only the closest family members attended in person, others were encouraged to view the service via live-stream online. Interment followed the service at Emerson Trail Cemetery.

Memorial donations may be made to the Grande Spirit Foundation. Click on the “Friends of the GSF” tab at www.grandespirit.org to make a donation.
