It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Sidney Lai Chun Wong. Sidney was born on December 21, 1941, in Canton, China and immigrated to Grande Prairie, AB, in 1981. She resided in Grande Prairie for most of her life, until her eventual, peaceful departure from this life on Wednesday, January 29, 2025, at the age of 83 years.

Sidney lived a quiet and simple life, finding joy in the things she nurtured—with her hands, her heart, and her unwavering devotion to family. Long before Asian grocery stores arrived in Grande Prairie, she grew her own vegetables, carefully tending to her garden to bring the flavours of home to her kitchen.

A true master of Chinese cuisine and patisserie, she prepared every dish with precision, skill, and deep affection. Whether it was a humble family meal or an intricate pastry, she crafted each bite to perfection, always mindful of the tastes and preferences of her loved ones. Her cooking was more than just nourishment—it was an expression of love, a way of bringing people together, and a cherished gift she shared with family and friends.

Though she lived quietly, her presence was deeply felt in the warmth of her home, the comfort of her meals, and the thoughtfulness she poured into every gesture. She leaves behind a legacy of love, tradition, and the unforgettable flavors that will forever live on in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know and be nurtured by her.

She is survived by her beloved spouse, Kwan Wong; devoted daughter, Edna (Alan) Chong and sons, Andy (Tracy) Wong, and Steven Wong; her adoring grandson Daniel (Victoria) Chong and two granddaughters, Pamela (Yves) Chong and Eva Wong; as well as two great-granddaughters, Elyssa Chan and Ana Chan.

The family will host the following services to allow family and friends to gather and celebrate the wonderful life of Sidney Wong at Oliver’s Funeral Home (10005 107 Ave Grande Prairie, AB, T8V 1L8),

A viewing will be held Monday, February 17, 2025 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm.

A viewing will be held again the following day, Tuesday, February 18, 2025, at 12:00 pm, with a funeral service to follow at 12:30 pm.

Sidney Wong will be deeply missed but never forgotten. May she rest in eternal peace.
