Obituary For Simone Meyer
Simone Marie Meyer was born on March 27, 1929 in Geneva, Switzerland. She was proud of her Swiss heritage. She immigrated to Ontario in 1954, following her parents and brother, bringing her two young children with her. In 1956, she moved to Alberta and two more children were born. She was fluent in French and German and learned English after her arrival to Canada. Over 20 years ago, mom started travelling to Bucerias, Mexico. She enjoyed conversing with the locals, and she taught herself Spanish. In her latter years, she became very interested in alternative medicine and healthy food choices. She supported locally grown foods. Instead of having a front yard of grass, flowers and trees, she had a yard full of raspberries and saskatoons. Simone was a woman who followed her own path. She was strong and independent, making her own way in the world. She was predeceased by her parens Paul and Marguerite Meyer and her brother Marcel Meyer. Left to cherish her memory are her four children: Paul Battig, Lillian (Norman) Nordhagen, Suzanne (Brian) Baile, and Lisa Kongsjorden (Elmer Bain); 21 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to World Vision – donate an animal to a village (www.worldvision.ca); as Simone was especially fond of goats in particular and was helpful to those less fortunate. Cremation has taken place. A celebration of life for family and friends will be held at a later date.
