Obituary For Sing "Jerry" Yin Mah
Sing “Jerry” Yin Mah, resident of Grande Prairie, AB, passed away on Saturday, October 23, 2021, at Mackenzie Place, at the age of 88 years.
Jerry was born in Kwangtung, China, on December 8, 1932, and travelled to Canada in 1949. He attended school in Edson, AB, followed by Alex Taylor School in Edmonton, AB. Later, Jerry and his father relocated to Westlock, AB, and started the Alberta Café. Eventually they ended up in Grande Prairie and purchased the Bamboo Gardens restaurant which was later transformed into the Midtown Restaurant.
In January 1970, Jerry in collaboration with his brother Hing and relative Guy Lee, purchased the Bamboo Drive-In, home of the once infamous Dry Ribs, lip-smacking burgers and oversized ice cream cones. Also in Grande Prairie, Jerry married his wife Kam, and started a family with four children. He was very much a family man and an avid sports fan. He was also a great conversationalist and enjoyed socializing with all.
Jerry is survived by his children: Philip, Victor, Jean (Len), and Wayne (Candace); and grandchildren Margot and Miles. Also surviving him is sister in-law Betty Mah and her children: Emily (John) Smith, William (Jeneva), Gordon, and their children; sisters Bo Oi and Bo Chow Cheung, and their families; relative Guy (Luisa) Lee and their children; as well as many extended family and friends.
Jerry was predeceased by his wife Kam; parents Hock Chow Mah and Pearl Yee Mah; step-mother Sim Kwei Mah; brother Hing Mah; as well as sister Bo Sin Wong.
The family would like to give a BIG thank you to the staff of Mackenzie Place for the top-notch care and attention provided for many years, the QEII Hospital emergency staff for their care and attention, as well as the paramedics who showed that not all superheroes wear capes and tights. Thank goodness!
A Celebration of Jerry’s life will be held on Friday, October 29, 2021, at 12:00pm, at Oliver’s Funeral Home in Grande Prairie (10005 107 Ave.).
A link will be available 15 minutes prior to the service on Jerry’s obituary on Oliver’s Funeral Home website.

Jerry was one of our original clients at Prime Property Management. He grew to be a friend and was a delight to deal with . His smile was genuine and he was quick to laugh. He's another one of those early days business owners who helped make our city grow.
