Obituary For Stanley Erickson

Stanley Wallace Erickson, resident of Grande Prairie, AB, passed away Monday, October 16, 2017, at the Grande Prairie Care Centre, at the age of 94 years.

Stan, a previous longtime resident of the Tangent area, was born May 22, 1923 to Chris and Mable Erickson. He was raised in the Travers area northeast of Lethbridge. Upon completion of one year university, he enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force where he spent 4 years as a Radio Mechanic. Upon his discharge, he took up farming in the Rocky Mountain House area where he met his future wife, Marlene Stewart. In 1950, he took out a homestead on the Lassiter Project north of Tangent where he spent the next 43 years. He was very active in community affairs, playing ball, curling, camping and spending time with his family. He and Marlene spent several years in Southern and Central Alberta, finally settling in Grande Prairie in 2010, where they resided until his passing.

Stan is survived, by his loving wife Marlene of 66 years, daughter Rita of Grande Prairie; son Edwin (Pauline) of Drayton Valley, daughter Lorraine (Jim) Cove of Penticton, BC; sister Millie Byquest of Winnipeg, MB; 7 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and a large extended family.

He was predeceased by his parents, 3 sisters, 2 brothers, and his son in-law Ed Beck.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, October 21, 2017 at 1:00pm at Oliver’s Funeral Home in Grande Prairie, AB. (10005 107 Ave.). Legion Tribute.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to STARS (10911 123 St., Grande Prairie, AB, T8V 7Z3), would be greatly appreciated by the family.

The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to the Staff of the Grande Prairie Care Centre, Dunvegan Wing, for the care and compassion shown to Stan during his residency.

    We are very saddened to hear of Stanley's passing. We remember him at various meetings, ball games, social gatherings, etc. He was very active and interesting to listen to. Marlene we think of you as you work through another phase in your life. Our condolences to you and your family.

    Uncle Stan was the neatest man ever. He was kind and loving and full of fun. We will never have another one like him. I will forever miss his hugs and songs he would sing for us.
