Obituary For Stanley "Stan" Joseph Baldwin II
Stanley Joseph Baldwin II, resident of Rycroft, AB, formerly of Dutch Settlement, NS, passed away on Monday, April 11, 2022, in Edmonton, AB, at the age of 61 years.
Stan was born on September 30, 1960, in Halifax, NS, to Stanley Joseph Baldwin I and Beatrice Marie (nee Hartlan) Baldwin. Stan and four of his five biological siblings: Vallee, Wanda, Darlene, and Mike were later fostered by Kenneth Lloyd and Agnes Marie Hurshman, in Dutch Settlement, NS. The Baldwin children grew up alongside three Hurshman siblings: Tom (Geraldine, deceased), Rick (Teresa), and Margaret/Peggy (Gary). After high school, Stan completed his journeyman Cabinet Making and moved to Alberta. He married Cheryl (nee Mundle) and had two children, Amanda Lyn and Kory Joseph. Stan divorced in 1987. He worked in the oilfield for many years and later in his life he would do small building projects for his friends. Stan married again in 1992, and would have celebrated his 30th wedding anniversary with Mary, this coming December (2022). He spent the last days of his life on his farm, with his beloved Mary, their dogs and horses.
Stan's favorite life stories were: cooking rabbit stew for Amanda and Kory, who loved the meat so much they ate it all before and it ended up being just vegetable soup; rescuing his horse Smoky from "The Mighty Peace River;" riding and breaking horses; building or fixing anything he wanted to; being a genius with an IQ of 196; and spending time ("sometimes with a beer") with family and friends.
Stan enjoyed many things such as: hunting, carpentry, welding, music, movies, cooking meat with a smoker, farming, ranching, riding and training horses, and dogs.
Stan will be sadly missed by his wife Mary Eileen Baldwin (nee Gardiner); children Dr. Amanda Lyn Baldwin-Block (Gary Block), and Kory Joseph Baldwin (Vanessa Avramenko); grandchildren: Cohen Victor McMahon (13), Kali Jessica Baldwin (11), Kabe Raymond Peter Baldwin (5), Phillip Ewalt Block (4); his Mother Agnes; brothers Tom and Rick (Teresa); sisters Vallee, Wanda, and Darlene; brothers in-law Dan (Brenda), and Jim (Carla); nieces: Chantelle, Starlee, Tonya, Tannis, Mikki, and Kory, Jodie; nephews: Tyler, Juston, Josh, and Tony; many cousins (Cindy, Charlotte, and others); aunts and uncles; the mother of his children Cheryl and members of their family: Brendan, Ray, Robert, and Terry; his incredible friends Don and Sharon Nelson; as well as many others.
Stan was predeceased by his biological parents, his foster Dad (Hurshman); his mother and father in-law Edith and Gord Gardiner; his brother Michael Baldwin (45); sister in-law Geraldine Hurshman; brother in-law Rick Gardiner; as well as Sue, Smoky, Hugo, Munchkin, Roxy, and many other beloved four-legged family members.
Stan took time to ensure his after-death plans were well laid out. As per his wishes, which we honor, no service or funeral be arranged or undertaken. Stan wished for his ashes to be split between the Peace River, AB, and the Shubenacadie River, NS. His family will ensure this is carried out, to the extent that it is permitted by law.
Memorial Donations may be made to Canadian Mental Health Association (9713 100 Ave., Grande Prairie, AB, T8V 0T5), or to The Northern Addictions Center (11333 106 St., Grande Prairie, AB, T8V 6T7), or to Heart and Stroke of Alberta (100 119 14 St. NW, Calgary, AB, T2N 1Z6).

We send our condolences to all of Stanley's family. We have fond memories of Stanley as a kind and friendly young man. As young cousins, we had lots of fun playing together at our grandmother's home in Sheet Harbour. Stanley acquired fine cabinet and furniture making skills and his Aunt Mary still cherishes the coffee table he made for her. Our thoughts are with you all, Aunt Mary Josey (Agnes' sister) and cousins Krista, Michael, Trena, Laura Lee, and Camilla
