It is with heavy hearts we announce that on Monday, January 27, 2020, Steve Sopkow slipped quietly away to be with the Lord. He was 87 years of age.

Steve was born on May 12, 1932, the second oldest of nine children born to Nick and Lena Sopkow. He spent his life in the Spirit River area. His passion was restoring antique vehicles. He also enjoyed having coffee with friends, playing cards, curling and playing billiards. Steve was a strong and loving influence in our lives and will be deeply missed. He will be at family gatherings in stories remembered and told.

Steve was predeceased by his father Nick Sopkow (1972), mother Lena Sopkow (1999), brother Julian Sopkow (1969), brother Sidney Sopkow (1989), and sister Ruth Sopkow (2006).

The family extends much gratitude to Dr. T. Phillips, Dr. O. Spruyt, Dr. E. Kitagawa, nurses and staff at the Central Peace Long-Term Care in Spirit River as well as family and friends for their love and support throughout the years.

A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, February 15, 2020, at 11:00am, at Spirit River Centennial Hall (4812 44 Ave.).

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Central Peace Health Complex Auxiliary (P.O. Box 866, Spirit River, AB, T0H 3G0) or to a charity of one’s choice.
