Obituary For Susan Marjorie Loland (nee Dingeldein)

Susan Loland, resident of Grande Prairie, passed away suddenly on Tuesday, April 4, 2023, at the age of 71.

Surrounded and lovingly cared for by her husband and best friends, Sherrill and Melody, she was loved through her final days.

Susan was born in Victoria, BC, on July 25, 1951. She was well-known in the quilting world, and was a well-respected pattern designer of Black Eyed Susan Designs, whose patterns sold worldwide. She was a talented Professional Photographer with many awards from the Professional Photographers of Canada. Susan was also a budding glass bead artist.

Susan will be remembered for her unfailing generosity and willingness to help others. Quilting was a way to show love and embrace people. Her community is blessed with numerous quilts she helped make or donated fabric for, including many special quilts in cribs for premature babies and many Ukrainian newcomers over the past year.

You could say that if there was a 6th Love Language, hers would have been handmade quilts.

Susan is survived by her husband Louis Loland; children Melissa (Will) Parrish, and David (Jennifer) Metituk; grandchildren: Emily, Geoffrey, Hannah, and Matthew. She also leaves her brothers and sisters in-law: Jim and Darla, Lyall and Angela, Chris and Pat, Larry, Joanne, and Doug; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Susan will be dearly missed by all those who knew and loved her.

The Viewing will be held on Sunday, April 9, 2023, at 12:00pm at Oliver's Funeral Home in Grande Prairie (10005 107 Ave.). Funeral Service to follow.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society AB/NWT Division (200, 325, Manning Road NE, Calgary, AB, T2E 2P5), or to a charity of one’s choice.

I was very sad to hear of Susan 's passing. My husband and were planning a trip to Grande Prairie this September and I was hoping to connect with Sussn my best High School friend. I moved to GP in grade 11 and Susan and I became fast close best friends fir the last two years of High School. I always appreciated her encouraging words and enjoyed trips out their farm. I was very happy to hear thst she too had become a believer in Jesus and was serving Him. She phoned me here in Swan River many many years sg to tell me that and I wad so blessed to hear that. I pray strength and peace over her precious family and look forward to again seeing her in heaven someday. If was a privilege to know her and I believe God brought her into my life at just tge right time. Coming from a farm in the far north peace country to a big city school in grade 11 was quite daunting but when I met Susan, peace and joy came over me and we enjoyed many adventures together. Thank you and God bless her entire family. Linda Hart (nee Johns) Swan River, Manitoba.

It is so sad to see Susan's obituary today! My deepest sympathy to you, Louis, and to Melissa and David and your families. There will be such a big hole in your lives! Also sympathy to Sherrill and Melody, who will also miss her so very much. I'd had a message from Susan, telling me that she was ill, but I had no idea she was going to be gone so soon! She was a lovely person, and I'm so glad that I knew her; she will always be woven into the fabric of my life! Janet Jones, Nelson, BC.

RIP my dear friend, I will remember you always, Susan was not only a quilter, and pattern designer. she was a photographer, a glass bead blower and many other crafts. She was a very talented lady. We had a ladies lunch group for years called the WW Ladies as we all met at our weight watchers group. We would meet every Wednesday , rain or shine. We shared much laughter, sorrows and life events, with each other. Susan was a big part of the group. I will miss you and will never forget you Susan. Fly high with the angels. Condolences to your family. LindaB

Auntie Susan played an instrumental role in leading my late husband Shane, and myself into a loving relationship with our precious Lord. She simply invited us to church and showed us by example, the love of Jesus. She walked with us in those early years, and when Shane passed, she blessed and encouraged me as a young widow and single mother. She also helped to foster that same faith in my mom, and together they shared a special bond. During Mom's final days, Auntie Susan spent many hours sitting by her side. She helped her with her needs, she treated her to her home canned peaches, she comforted her, and no doubt, she prayed for her often. I had hoped to see her one last time to thank her for the impact she had made in our lives. Sadly she left before I could. But thankfully, I have a faith...a faith that she helped to plant in me...a faith that tells me the day will come when every tear will be wiped away, and together we will rejoice in Heaven. God bless you Auntie Susan, and a million times over...thank you. 🙏🏼❤️
