Obituary For Sylvia Hotte

It is with deep sadness and much love that we mourn the passing of our family’s matriarch, Sylvia Hotte, on Sunday, April 3, 2022, at the Hythe Continuing Care Centre, at the age of 96 years.

Sylvia was born in Kingman, AB, on May 6, 1925. The family later moved to the Valhalla, AB, area. She went to school at Glass Lake. Following her schooling she worked at a café in Beaverlodge, AB, where she met the love of her life, Ed Hotte, and they married in 1943. They raised five children while both were working in Beaverlodge and operating a mixed farming operation.

Sylvia was a great community supporter; she and her husband were founding members of the South Peace Centennial Museum near Beaverlodge and were very active with the Lions Club. She was also active with the Beaverlodge Arts and Culture Centre, Thrift Store, Agriculture Society, and community functions to enhance the area.

Her home was always open to whoever dropped in for homemade meals or coffee and treats. Sylvia was well known for her cheerful personality. She really loved family gatherings and did not want to miss anything. She lived a very fulfilling life and is now at peace.

Sylvia loved to knit, crochet, and embroidery. She was an avid gardener and loved camping with friends and family. She especially loved fishing with Ed.

Sylvia will be sadly missed by her children: Maynard (Marlene), Colleen (Wayne), Sheldon (Vicki), and Arden (Joanne); grandchildren: Cindy (Donnie), Vickie (John), Kevin (Bobby), Sherri (Bugsy), Darrel (Darnel), Clint (Tara), Kreg (Lee-Anne), Terin (Audrey), Melanie (Jamie), Iain (Shauna), Laine (Lara), Naomi (Brad), Charice (Alex), and Bryce (Sharah); thirty great-grandchildren; as well as thirteen great great-grandchildren.

Sylvia was predeceased by her parents Thorvald and Clara Teigen; husband of 68 years Ed Hotte; sister Mable (Lloyd) Clarke; brothers: Oli (Rene) Teigen and Lloyd (Dora) Teigen; daughter Marna (Robert) Gingles; as well as numerous brothers and sisters in-law.

A Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, April 12, 2022, at 11:00am, at the Beaverlodge Alliance Church (409 10th St.).

A Livestream of the service will be accessible 15 minutes prior to the service on Sylvia's obituary on Oliver’s Funeral Home website.

Memorial Donations may be made to West County Health Complex Facility (P.O. Box 30, Beaverlodge, AB, T0H 0C0).
