Obituary For Tadeo Cortez
Tad was born on October 28, 1943 in Agoo, La Union, Philippines. He passed away at Points West Hospice in Grande Prairie, AB on Monday, December 14, 2015 at the age of 72 years, surrounded by close family.
Tad completed his medical degree at the University of the East in Manila, Philippines where he also met his wife Eloisa. He practiced medicine for approximately 10 years in the Philippines. Tad and Eloisa moved to Canada in 1978 where he continued his career as a Respiratory Therapist at the QEII Hospital in Grande Prairie, AB. He retired 18 years later.
Tad was a genuine, gentle, always smiling and down to earth man. His hobbies included swimming, reading, and singing, watching movies, and spending time with his family. He also loved to watch professional Tennis and Basketball with his son Matthew.
Tad was the President of the Grande Prairie Filipino Association for several years, a proud member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church Choir, and in 2013, organized a local Philippines Typhoon Relief Fund to help the Philippines.
Tad will be remembered for being friendly and caring, for his faith in God, and for helping anyone in need.
Tad will be sadly missed by his wife Eloisa; son Matthew; niece/ daughter Ethel and family; Brian, Katrina, and Casey Lowe; brother Jun (Dida) Cortez of San Jose, California; Ira and Chris Stanley and family; Michael and Julienne Batac and family as well as many other extended family members.
He was predeceased by his parents Maria and Bernabe Cortez.
A Prayer Vigil will be held on Sunday, December 20, 2015, at 7:00pm, at St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church in Grande Prairie (10404 102 St).
The Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, December 21, 2015 at 11:00am at St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church, Father Remi Hebert C.Ss.R presiding.
Memorial donations may be made in Tad’s memory to the Canadian Cancer Society (9805 97 St, Grande Prairie, AB T8V 8B9).
