Obituary For Thelma Grace Crerar (nee Small)
Thelma Grace Crerar (nee Small) passed away peacefully with her family at her side on Wednesday, January 29, 2025, at the Grande Prairie Regional Hospital, at the age of 91 years.
Thelma was born on March 19, 1933, in Czar, AB. She was raised in Rio Grande, AB, until their family relocated to the east side of Grande Prairie, AB. It was there they would ride their horses to the Five Mile School.
As a teen, Thelma worked in Fairview at Hemstocks’ dress shop and later at AGT as a phone operator. Soon after she would meet and fall in love with a young man named Edward, and they would marry when she was at the young age of nineteen. Eventually they settled down to raise their four beautiful daughters in Valleyview, AB.
Thelma was a busy, independent and accomplished woman. She loved being the neighbourhood hairdresser and seamstress; sewing dresses, skating, and horse show outfits. She created fond memories through fishing, camping, and traveling with family and friends.
Some years later a new adventure brought them back to Grande Prairie’s east end, where they started the family business T&E Trailer Court, located on a section of the original Small homestead.
Thelma was known as the Roadrunner; she had a life-long love of travel. She learned how to hook up a small travel trailer and eventually turning to a motor home. She wasn’t too fond of flying however early in life she did make it to Hawaii, Florida, and Las Vegas. Eventually her preferred holiday destination and second home would become Kelowna.
Thelma was considered an angel and a matriarch. She was a very supportive wife, proud mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, foster mom and friend. She was outgoing, kind, caring, had a strong sense of fairness, empathy and a desire to help those who were less fortunate or faced challenges. She would open her heart and home to many throughout the years.
Thelma leaves behind and will be lovingly remembered by her daughters: Leslie Brooks (Kevin Brooks) and Jan Crerar; son-in-law Terry Cook; foster child Veronica Leon; grandchildren: Teshah Kosowan (Kevin), Kyle Brooks, LeeAnn Brooks (Travis Borger), Landon Cook, Mia Cook, Candice Cook, and Conrad Cook; honorary grandchild Jade Bielecki; great-grandchildren Brooklyn and Georgia; honorary great-grandchild Brylee; as well as life long friend Gloria McDermott.
Thelma is reunited with her husband Edward; daughters Sonja and Melonie; sisters: Deeann, Barbara, Shirley, and Evelyn; brothers George and Art; parents Ann and George Small; as well as life-long friends Camie and Gilbert Potter.
The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude for the genuine care and compassion received by the paramedics and staff at the Grande Prairie Regional Hospital.
A Memorial Service will be held for Thelma at a date yet to be determined.
Memorial donations may be made in Thelma’s honor to Camp He Ho Ha in Isle Lake, Alberta (https://camphehoha.com/).

My fondest memory of aunt Thelma was her kindness. She was always the one anyone could rely on, she was always there with a sweet smile and inviting arms. As a child she treated me as if I was special person which I really appreciated. I love you and will miss you aunt Thelma.
