Obituary For Theresa Nearing Matheson
Theresa Matheson (Nearing), passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Sunday, May 26, 2019 in Grande Prairie, AB, at the age of 79 years.
Theresa was born in Glace Bay, NS on March 4, 1940 to Elizabeth and Michael Nearing. She was raised in Glace Bay. In 1960, she married Alexander “Sandy” Matheson and had three children. In 1986, Theresa and Sandy moved to Grande Prairie to be closer to their children and grandchildren. Family was a large part of Theresa’s life. Everyone was drawn to her fun personality and love of life. Theresa will always be remembered for her kindness, witty sense of humor, and love for her family.
Theresa will be sadly missed by her three children: Michael, Nancy, and Darryl (Emma). Theresa leaves behind her grandchildren whom she loved so dearly: Ryan (Gwendolyn), Brittany (Todd), Travis (Selene), Ashley (Blake), Matthew, Adrianna, Jacob, and Savannah; as well as three great-grandchildren: Kayli, Lincoln, and Estella.
Theresa was predeceased by her mother Elizabeth and father Michael; sisters: Patricia, Christina, Sharon, and Sheila; brothers: Michael, Lawrence, James, Charles, and Robert; daughter in-law Kathy; infant son John Robert; and grandson, Jonathan.
A Prayer Service will be held on Friday, May 31, 2019 from 7-9:00pm at Oliver’s Funeral Home in Grande Prairie (10005 107 Ave.).
Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, June 1, 2019 at 11:00am at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Grande Prairie (10005 107 Ave.), with Father Remi as Celebrant. Interment will follow at Grande Prairie Cemetery (84th Ave. & 112th St.). Following the service, friends are invited to join the family for a luncheon at Tranquille Hall.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Alzheimer Society (102, 9823 116 Ave., Grande Prairie, AB, T8V 4B4).
