Thérèse McCaffrey (nee Phaneuf), resident of Grande Prairie, AB, passed away Tuesday, April 10, 2018 at the age of 81 years.

Thérèse was born on March 18, 1937, in the Saint Hippolyte district of Saskatchewan. She grew up on the family farm with her mother, Helena Phaneuf (nee L’Heureux) and her father, Maurice Phaneuf. Thérèse was the second oldest of seven siblings; five sisters: Marie, Pauline, Louise, Annette and Madeleine; and two brothers: Lucien and Hubert.

As a young girl, she enjoyed riding her horse and took great pride in working hard to help her father and mother on the farm. She was involved in her local parish where she played piano in church on Sundays. She was especially fond of her father who had a soft spot for her. He even let her drive his car at an early age. After graduating from high school, Thérèse went on to attend the University of Alberta in the Faculty of Nursing.

At the age of 23, she married our father Henry McCaffrey on October 3rd, 1960. Her talent and ability went beyond books and music and was evident in all that she did. Not only did she make her sister’s bridesmaid dresses, but also her own wedding dress.

Mom and Dad moved out west to Alberta in the spring of 1966. Her family grew to seven children, 21 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Our mother’s strength, conversation, passion, sharp-witted funniness, kind-heartedness, selflessness and unwavering support of family are but some of the ways she will be remembered. We love you Mom. Rest peacefully. God has a place for you.

Thérèse will be remembered lovingly by her husband Henry McCaffrey; sons: Desmond (Marlene), Colin (Donna), Mark (Lisa), Kevin (Jo-Ann), and Paul; and daughters: Kelene (Rick), and Auralee (Glenn). Thérèse was very proud of her many grandchildren: Christopher, Michelle, Colton, Dallas, Connor, Robin (Audrey), Kathleen, Liam, Lucas, Kelsea (David), Katelynn, Brianne, Shelby, Jesse, Joshua, Caleb, Jeremy, Gabriel, Gracie, Stefanie and Victoria; and great-grandchildren: Mylo, Bree, Mila, Ella and Mason.

Thérèse was predeceased by her sister Madeleine Phaneuf, brother Lucien Phanuef, father Maurice Phaneuf, daughter Audrey Maria McCaffrey and mother Helena Phaneuf (nee L’Heureux).

A Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, April 16, 2018, at 1:30pm, at the St. Hippolyte Church, in Vawn, SK (Main St and 1st Ave).
