Obituary For Thomas Lane

The family of Tom Lane, resident of Grande Prairie, formerly of Calgary, is extremely saddened to announce his sudden and untimely passing on Wednesday, October 18, 2017 at the QEII Hospital, at the age of 51 years.

Tom was born in Calgary, AB, but lived in Grande Prairie most of his adult life. Tom’s career path was very diverse and included carpentry, paramedics, firefighting, oilfield safety, and his true passion: teaching.

He was larger than life with a “shoot straight from the hip” attitude. His sense of humor, integrity, and dedication to work and family were unending, and those are the memories that we will forever cherish.

Tom’s presence made a huge impression on everyone he met or briefly came in contact with. His philosophy of “Go big or don’t go” mirrored the size of his heart.

He will be sadly missed by his wife Darrelanne; step-children whom he loved as his own Travis Schwartz, and Felicia Schwartz (Justin); grandchildren and the lights of his life: Ayla Marie and Bryson Lee; father Harry Lane of Red Deer; brother Rick (Cynthia) Lane of Calgary; sister Valerie (John) Hilario of Red Deer; mother in-law Patricia Vande Caveye; sisters in-law Julianna Masson of Kelowna, BC, and Renee Vande Caveye; as well as numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews.

He was predeceased by his mother Lorraine Lane and brother Douglas Lane.

Darrelanne and the family would like to thank the paramedics, Dr. Peebles, and the ER and Hospital Staff for their care of Tom. Dar also thanks family and friends for their love and support during this heartbreaking time. Tom was respected, loved and touched so many people. The outpouring of emotion is overwhelming beyond words, yet so comforting.

A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, October 28, 2017 at 2:00pm at Nitehawk Ski Hill.

Memorial donations may be made to the SPCA (12220 104 Ave., Grande Prairie, AB, T8V 8A8) or to a charity of one’s choice.
